That topic caused a serious war on BN...
Out of respect for the USC guys, I would just ask everyone to remember that we ask people to give JT and tOSU the benefit of the doubt in our situation. We have no idea of the context of this conversation...the easy answer is to crack on PC, the better answer is to realize we don't know very much of this situation.
As 5Star said on BN, maybe its best if we focused on how well JT handled the situation.

Certainly not trying to bring on a USC v. OSU war message board war. I suppose I could have thought through the title of the thread a little better. My point was more along the lines of giving some honest consideration to the reputations of a coach where recruiting is concerned.
I don't think Pete's a bad guy. I do think that he is prone to telling a recruit one thing, and then doing another. I also think he's prone to this type of reaction - the one JG is quoted as saying Pete had. In terms of recruiting, when does this type of info become "common knowledge" and begin to impact recruiting, ya know?
USC guys, Tressell is surely no perfect saint either. Dennis Kennedy, anyone? Maybe it's a non-issue entirely. Still thought the original post as I quoted it was a good "talking point" which could be honestly discussed here on the planet where Bustnuts apparently failed.

I'm with ya BKB...
As WStripes said on BN and on this site, Jason Gwaltney played games throughout his recruiting and even blatantly lied in certain situations.
For JG to tell USC he is coming as long as they do not recruit another back, then commit elsewhere is bogus. We would be calling for a kid's head if he did that to us.
There is much more to the conversation than what JG is letting on...and why exactly should his version be believed this time?

Nice thing that coaches have going for them is the same thing that administrators haev going for them... transient populations.
Any effect these kinds of things have only make it maybe to the next class....
14 year old football players aren't recruiting junkies... their parents aren't recruiting junkies... the USC prospect of 2007 or 08 has no idea that this just went down... hell, they don't even know they are prospects yet for the most part.... also... the comment is coming from a guy who didn't even go to USC.
What is going to be the impact of a kid from NY who went to WV who thinks Pete's a bit of a shiester... Might not get the next great Long Island Kid? Probably not going to be the end of the world.
Same thing with Dennis Kennedy, I was disappointed for Dennis, and I was a bit upset considering the recruiting base in his area... but for the most part, the next kid is going to think that he's a better player than Dennis or whatever else...
