All the calendars in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, must still read 2003. If you like to consider your program a national power and it's been 45 years since your last (and first) NC, I guess you learn to cherish things a little longer . If that Haley's comet NC gets embroiled in controversy, I reckon you'd get a tad angry.
That's the only explanation for why one LSU fan has decided that February 2006 is a good time to lash out about 2003. Ok, I guess the real reason is that it's hard to stand up when your nemesis is winning 34 games in a row and easy to kick him when he finally loses one.
Energized by SC's defeat at the hands of
LSU Texas, opportunistic Steve the LSU fan started a campaign to raise $10,000 for some smack talk.
Onepeat.com was launched in early January to raise money to rent a billboard near the USC campus. The message: LSU was the 2003 champ, period.
In spite of the Onepeat message board's status as the single biggest SC hatefest on the Internet, Steve claims that the project is and has always been a shot at the media, not USC.
The original billboard design has been scrapped because the AFCA wouldn't let them use images of the crystal football trophy. What's left is a watered down design that will be within a half-mile of USC within the next few days.
The response from USC fans?
