Southern Cal RB Hershel Dennis
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2399979
Quote:
LOS ANGELES -- Southern California tailback Hershel Dennis, who entered spring practice No. 1 on the depth chart, has torn ligaments in his left knee and is expected to miss the 2006 season.
Dennis was injured in practice Tuesday, apparently trying to cut on the wet artificial turf at USC's Cromwell Field. An MRI taken Wednesday night revealed the damage.
The fifth-year senior tore ligaments in the same knee in December 2004, had surgery the following month and sat out last season. USC coach Pete Carroll said after practice Thursday that the school would look into applying for a sixth year of eligibility for Dennis. A date wasn't immediately set for surgery.
Dennis started every game as a sophomore in 2003 -- ahead of then-freshmen Reggie Bush and LenDale White.
Dennis was the only experienced tailback participating in spring practice. Desmond Reed and Michael Coleman, who both played as backups last season, are recovering from operations -- Reed on a knee and Coleman on a hip.
Chauncy Washington, who has been academically ineligible the past two seasons and isn't participating in spring practice, hopes to play next fall. He is currently taking classes at USC.

Amazing how thin USC is now at running back.
Gotta believe that he'll get a 6th year. Here's hoping he makes a complete recovery.

Wow, sounds like there RB situation just turned from great to Iowa of 2 years ago.
Didn't they sign a stud RB or two in the past two years? I know they issued out on Gwaltney, but can't remember who else they were going for at running back, I'm assuming there is a talented freshmen or red shirted freshmen that could step up alright though.

They signed 3 or 4 stud freshman, so they will get a chance to shine right away.

Yeah they signed a couple kids, but no one that I think that is really ready to make a huge splash as a freshmen, and I don't think anyof them are in for spring practice, so they will be behind. Not a good thing when they are breaking in a new Qb.

5 stars C.J. Gable and Stafon Johnson (Johnson may be a Saefty though)
4 stars Kenny Ashley, Emmanuel Moody and Stanley Havili
All these guys were just last year. They won't be thin in talent, just experience at RB

Or post-Clarrett OSU with Ross and Hall both gimpy.
USC has incredible talent up and down the roster, but a remarkable experience problem to match.
