From Natty lite:
Quote:
Trojans song girl and Spanish 3 classmate Natalie Nelson defended the class and complained that USC's national prominence ? "being at the top" ? makes its athletes easy targets for criticism.
"I totally think that's why [USC] did what it did," the song girl co-captain said.
"Obviously, someone assumed something was wrong with all those players getting good grades and ? others jumping on the bandwagon," Nelson said. "But I saw those athletes do the work."

My question is this: How is this different from the stampede of OSU pre-meds taking their organic chemistry at Columbus State? In other words: why criticize USC (or its athletes) for doing something that broke no rule at all? If USC wants to discontinue the practice, that's fine, but I think they are making a mistake by making it retroactive.....

The quote from J.T. Curtis, HS Coach of 2007 USC signee Joe McKnight, seems relevant to this thread.
usatoday
...
McKnight said he was not at all worried about the prospect that USC may be penalized because of an investigation of whether Reggie Bush or his parents took improper payments from agents while Bush was playing there.
McKnight said USC coach Pete Carroll set up a conference call so he and Curtis could talk to Bush and ease their worries that USC might wind up under sanctions.
"We addressed that directly and we were satisfied," Curtis said. He said Carroll told him that USC is not being investigated.

Wouldn't contact with a former player be awful close to a violation? I'm not trying to throw stones, I just thought that former players (or current players aside from campus visits) weren't allowed to have any input in the process. Kinda like whats-his-face and the restaurant that got ole Petey in minor trouble...?
I guess since the contact was of the nature it was, and was probably initiated by the recruit, it'd be OK... I just wonder if they're crowding the line between "OK" and "not OK"

It's curious that Reggie is comfortable talking to USC recruits about this investigation, but not to the NCAA ?
Ever since he told ESPN that, in the end, we'd all learn nothing happened -- but then refused to discuss what happened -- I've been skeptical. As time goes by it just looks worse and worse to me.

C'mon, what do you think New Orleans biggest booster says when he is in a 3-way call?
"Yeah, you got me dead to rights, I took all that money and USC is doomed," more likely the conversation goes "I did not have financial relationships with that Indian giver."

Pettie gets a three way with Reggie and a recruit but USC won't let Reggie have a sideline pass for the Rose Bowl and told him it was better he didn't show up. Hmmmm, how dumb is this recruit????
