Personally, I ranked ND 12th this week. I believe that they are one of the 10 best available teams for a BCS game - but only because of the 2-teams-per-conference limit that exclude Wisconsin, Auburn, and 1 more SEC team (probably the Fla-Ark loser) from consideration.

Two losses against BCS-bound opponents by 26 (Michigan) and 20 points (USC), yet Notre Dame is a lock to earn a spot in one of the game's most lucrative bowls. Yeah, that seems right, doesn't it? Of the top 12 teams in the latest BCS rankings, it's the Irish who are the least deserving of a bid (Say what you want about Boise State, but the Broncos beat everyone on their schedule, including Oregon State). Look at the way Notre Dame performed in the losses to the Wolverines and Trojans and tell me it's still one of the best teams in the country. Its only quality wins came against Georgia Tech and Penn State, while the Irish had to comeback and beat subpar Michigan State and UCLA (who was without its starting QB). But come Jan. 3 the Irish (who are 10th in the latest BCS standings) will likely be in the Sugar Bowl against the SEC champ while teams like Wisconsin (7th) and Auburn (11th) will be shut out of the showcase bowl games. It's as much an indictment of a system that won't allow three teams from the same conference to get BCS berths, a system that ought to be retooled to give the best 12 teams a shot, period, not the best teams that meet certain qualifiers. This year it means that the Badgers and Tigers are automatically left out while Ohio State and Michigan take the Big Ten bids, while the SEC champ (Arkansas or Florida) and likely LSU take the SEC's invites. It also means the Irish will be able to reap the benefits of being one of the best teams in the country because of a 10-2 mark and a system that allows them to play in a top-teir bowl, even if with two blowout losses in their biggest games, they have shown they don't belong.

?I think so, especially the way the game has been going lately,? said Quinn, who clearly had been paying attention to the national scope of upsets the past month. ?If you look at the two teams we lost to this year, we lost to the second team and the third team in the country. Why shouldn?t we (go to a BCS game)??

You shouldn't go because the teams you did beat suck. When the most impressive part of you resume is the teams you lost to, you don't deserve it. When you schedule a bunch of bums, and you most impressive win is a come from behind win against a terrible team, you don't deserve it. I am glad we are not stuck in a situation where we have to brag about how good the teams are that we lost to. Pat yourself on the back Brady. No heisman, and you don't deserve a BCS bid.

The Rose committee is not going to want a rematch of ND/UM, so it's looking more and more likely that UM will face LSU, which also has some built in storylines with the two having never played each other, and Les Miles being a former player under Schembechler. That means ND will probably be headed to the Sugar to face the winner of the Florida/Arkansas game.

I hear all of this [censored] about only conference winners being able to play in a National Title game well guess what, that eliminates Notre Dame from ever playing for it since they're not a part of any conference.

If Notre Dame belongs in a BCS game on the criteria of losing, then Penn State does too...after all, they lost to 3 teams in the top 10 (OSU, UM, Wiscy) and mighty Notre Dame, just outside the top 10. Of course suggesting they should be in a BCS game based on their losses when the best team they've beaten is Purdue would be crazy, right? Then again, Notre Dame is basically making that argument...

That's not a rule, and that's why it's not a rule.

I think the NCAA should grow some balls and force all teams to join a conference. The Big East would be a nice fit for the domers.

(domers, please spare me your reasons why NA needs to remain independant. I'm saying that in spite of all your stupid reasons, the NCAA should force it anyways.)

That's their excuse for Michigan not deserving at chance at OSU again.

I've never understood the TV contract argument. Let ND keep their NBC TV contract for their home games while they're in a conference. I'm sure WVU, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Louisville, and South Florida won't raise a stink about have nationally televised games every other year.

The Big East makes sense. ND already competes there for basketball, and they already steal their bowl slots for football. Put Army back in C-USA, add Navy too, and drop Temple to D1-AA.

Hell they should probably just move Air Force out of the Mountain West and start a new conference with Army, Navy, Air Force, and Notre Dame. Then they could play 3x per season for the "Commander of NBC" trophy and have a guaranteed BCS bid for the winner...right?

Temple is actually an independant this year....The Big East booted them out ofr football when the new conference formed. As is Army.

My question to everyone is why should ND have to join a conference? if they want to be independant that is their thing......what needs to happen is quite having the BCS give special circumstances for ND they should have to have the same criteria as everyone else.
