That kid is going to get abused. This will illustrate very clearly why CW isn't a college coach imo. Claussen is not only going to take a beating from opponents, he's going to be treated by his own coach like Parcells would treat a veteran NFL player. Thump, I agree that giving up on the season and building for the future is a good move on Charlie's part. But Jax's post illustrates exactly how Charlie is going to blow the opportunity to build for the future.

Few 18-19 year-old kids could endure the verbal abuse that JC is going to take from CW for the remainder of the season (or however long he survives behind that line). The Bradys (Tom and Quinn) were both established QBs who had experienced adversity before 'the genius' came along. This kid's first experience with adversity will be harmonized by CW screaming in his ear.

A QB must have his head right to be effective. Charlie is more likely than not to destroy this kid and his enormous potential.

One thing about the annointed one is that he comes from a family with past collegiate athletic exposure - albeit not with the kind and gentle attention Weis will likely provide. Still he could lean on his brothers collective experience for perspective. (If only Fulmer were as big of an AH as Weis).

Remember, this kid has never had to endure anything but glowing success. 42-0 in high school. #1 ranked player coming out of high school and has his pick of colleges and coaches tripping over themselves to try and get him into their program. Stretch Hummer and an announcement at the CFHOF that he's going to be a domer.

So what should we do with him?

I know!!

Let's throw him into Beaver Stadium at night with a marginal O line against what might be the best defense in the Big 10.

Sounds like a plan! I know I'll enjoy watching.

I seem to remember that Quinn (Brady) was 'blooded' as a freshman at ND. He did less than swell, but improved as a sophomore, junior, and then did very well as a senior. Going waaaaay back, that happened to Art Schlichter at OSU. He was thrown to the wolves as a true freshman (first game, I believe) against Penn State. Got destroyed, 24 -0 (?), but developed to pretty much the concensus best passer OSU has had.

You gotta get the reps, and if he does some good things, great. But he's gotta get off the porch and run with the big dogs, because becoming great is a process not a right.

Besides (and I'm sure to take flack from someone on this), to quote Billy Joel, 'you gotta to learn how to lose OK' (or somesuch paraphrase). No one can win 'em all. If the Domers expected him to win them all until he graduated, their rose colored glasses are rosier than OSU faithful's EVER were.

Finally, and please call me on this if in error, Justin Zwick committed to OSU, then Brady Quinn to ND (no need for both studs at same university). Zwick 'shirted, but Brady played (and got creamed) as a true freshman. At the end of the day, Zwick lost his place, and Brady developed. Learning is great, and some positions require it (OL, DL, LB), but some positions are good to go (DB, WR). In this case, who's he got to learn from? No one really, so why not take the reps. Charlie Cheeseburger is grooming him to be a star for someone else, as he won't make it until 'The Pickle' becomes a senior.

I should stay away from ND and Michigan boards, but this week I can't.

The rationale on the ND board for their performance last week and likely performances in weeks to come is that CW does not yet have all his star athletes on board. Well, let's look at some facts.

Here is a comparison of where ND and Ga Tech (and I threw in PSU to cover this week while I was at it) ranked in recruiting the past five years (per Scout).

It's just they way they are...this whole season will be one big excuse. When NoNothing is 1-6 or 2-6, then Claussen will light it up the last month with big numbers against bad defenses the last 3 or 4 weeks and they'll all start coming back to the other boards bragging about a NC 2008, as if 2007 was one big preseason. This will be the NoD equivalent of the "probation years" defense that Cryami uses.

I couldn't stand the guy when all the recruiting hoopla was going on -- but knowing the line he's got and who PSU can bring to the table -- just thinking about it leaves a grimace on my face with visions of Tim Couch floating by.

I hope they keep using the "its Ty's fault" excuse. That puts a very distinct and measurable time stamp on it. Essentially they are going all in on 2008 and 2009. If they aren't a NC game participant at the very least, what can they say? They are painting themselves in a corner with CW.
