Kirk Ferentz (official thread)
Kirk Ferentz signed a three-year extension
Quote:
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz signed a three-year extension that will keep him under contract with the Hawkeyes through 2012.
The new deal will pay Ferentz a base salary of $1.2 million and includes incentives for postseason bowl appearances and the team's academic achievement.
The school announced the extension Tuesday, the same day the Hawkeyes accepted an invitation to play in the Capital One Bowl.
The timing of the deal should also end speculation that Ferentz may be lured to another college program or the NFL at the end of the season.
|
This should stop two rumors. This should stop the NFL rumors. Also, one that wasn't circulating much. One of my clients is a PSU alum. He said there was a lot of talk about bringing Ferentz to PSU next season. Ferentz had expressed interest in the job and many alum felt positive JoePa was stepping down. Doesn't matter now.
BTW, if this is in the wrong forum, I apologize. Move it if necessary. I'm still getting used to BP forum setup.

I'm not sure he would have been able to make the jump to the NFL. A good move for him by staying.

He's been great for Iowa, its a good decision for Iowa to lock him up as long as they can!

Good for Ferentz, I hope he stays at Iowa as long as Hayden Fry did. What Ferentz has done at Iowa over the last three years is nothing short of remarkable, and legitimizes the Big-10 as opposed to the old days of "the Big-2 and Little-8."
Between the programs that Ferentz, Tiller, and Alverez have built, along with OSU and MI, the Big-10 has 5 perennial Top-25 teams. The only thing as surprising as how fast Iowa got good is how fast PSU and Illinois have fallen.

Ferentz speaks on Florida's defense
Ok, this is the kind of thing that baffles me... We held Iowa to 7 points, and negative yards rushing. We were all over Drew Tate all day, and completely dominated every aspect of their offense. So what the hell is Brain Ferentz talking about?
http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbc...ORTS/512310318
"The biggest difference I see between them and a Big Ten defense is they are a lot more aggressive," Ferentz said. "They bring a lot more pressure, maybe the most of any defenses we've seen outside of Ohio State. I would say they are the faster than most defenses we face in the Big Ten. . . . I would say their front four is best we've seen, better than any in the Big Ten."
Ferentz added, "I think they are maybe a little better than Ohio State's defense, no disrespect to Ohio State."

I know what your saying, and thats what I thought at first. Then I remember that the Big 10's reputation is already damaged thanks to scUM and Minnesota, and this sure doesnt help.
