Of course ND could find opponents, anyone can schedule games. Will it be the same for ND if there are no regional powers/rivals?
Do Tennessee & [Insert Military School Here] generate the same kind of interest in south bend as Michigan, Michigan State & Purdue? Not in my experience living in Michiana (a term I hate btw, only the Indiana residents call it that  ).
Besides the history of the matchups, the alumni bases often live together, fueling rivalries & interest in the matchups (ie MSU, hardly based on their program prestige).
It would have a big impact on ND if the Big 10 was not contributing to ND's schedule.
