He would go off on rants like "I can systematically prove to you why professional football is better!" To which we'd reply, "Great. We care. Obviously you never went to a football school, nor did you grow up in a state that had a big football school, so you wouldn't get it."

So you had a poli sci prof that would rant about things, and would provide "facts", about which side of a purely preference-based argument was right? Weird.

Not arguing with you on that point. You're probably right. But why doesn't an NFL team build a 100k+ stadium? A bunch of teams have fancy, new stadiums. Why weren't they built to hold 100k? Did they purposely build them for luxury, instead of quantity of seats?
You know that money is the reason behind every decision in the NFL (and college, too). Do the teams make more money selling 70,000 seats to a game where the fans walk away saying, "that was a nice stadium," or 100,000 seats to a game where fans walk away complaining that the fat guy sitting next to them (me?) was using part of their spot on the bench?

Maybe.
Anyway, back to the topic, I've always a fan of college football. I'm interested in most college football games. But, then again, I grew up near Columbus and Ohio State. I now live in the Cleveland area, and my friends look at me like I'm nuts when I complain about the lack of Ohio State coverage around here. (You don't hear crap about Ohio State on the radio, and on TV and in the paper they just LOVE to report on Ohio State's most recent troubles.)
When it comes to Big 10 football, I can watch any game. Iowa vs. Minnesota, or Wisconsin vs. Indiana - it doesn't matter. The same goes for the NFL. I don't need to have any interest in the teams to find the games interesting. But, unless it's a bowl game, I'm not going to watch just any crappy college game. It has to include a team with some prestige to it. If it's Boise State vs. San Diego State, I'll have little or no interest.
In conclusion, I think Abraham Lincoln would be most pleased with the world of San Dimas, today. I know I am.

I think GD hit it, BP's a college site primarily, but college. Nothing in pro ball compares to the passion and excitement of college ball.
