Something funny to think about:
Notre ame's [censored]ty god-awful horrible defense propelled Troy Smith to win the Heisman, and might propel Jamarcus Russell to be the #1 pick in the draft.
Going on the NA fan train of thought which is Troy Smith sucks.....how pathetic of a defense do they have? If Troy Smith sucks and they made him a Heisman winner, and Jamarcus Russell is all of a sudden a #1 draft pick.......seriously. How bad are you?

For BN27
An ill wind blows
Illinois' highly rated class leads to whispers
Quote:
"No soft verbals, no silent verbals, no quiet verbals, OK?" he said. "Either you're committed or you're not committed. … I think we have to define exactly what the rules are."
But Notre Dame took a shot from Benn in that regard. He told the Washington Post in a story published Wednesday that Irish assistant Peter Vaas, whom the school let go after the season, peppered him with text messages and phone calls after he had committed to Illinois.
Benn provided one such text message to the Post dated Dec. 17. It read: "FYI, ILL is telling Robert Hughes that they will build their offense around him. Didn't they tell you that? Coach Vaas."
Weis' reply?
"You ask me if coach Vaas sent him texts. Sure he sent him texts," he said. "You probably could go ask the kid if he committed to us beforehand too—see what he says to that one. It comes down to those silent verbals, all that other type of stuff.
"I don't think coach Vaas was trying to do anything unethical. … [Benn] should wish him well and not point a finger."

BOSTON (AP) -- The lawyer for Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said Tuesday that doctors failed to recognize life-threatening complications after Weis' gastric bypass surgery, allowing him to bleed internally for more than a day.

Saw that on Yahoo with the sidebar tag line:
" Weis malpractice lawsuit begins"
As god is my witness, the first thought that crosses my mind is that some gutsy Hoosier has the balls to sue for all the failed 4th down calls Weis made last year.
Then I click the link and find it is still about Weis' botched Bariatric surgery.

Coops rope was so long for 2 reasons imo. Gordon Gee being a true de-emphasize football type of President during the really awful years of Coops reign and the way Earl Bruce was fired. They couldn't fire Coop 4 years into his tenure no matter what, they feared a return to our "graveyard of coaches" reputation and envisioned something similar to what happened to Bama recently.
Also remember Coop didn't have a lot of 3 loss years in his prime stretch...they were always 2 loss seasons. No one could fire a coach with the record Coop amassed between '94 and '98 but once he hit a rough patch in '99 and '00 his ass was gone. I know they cited his loss of control and such but to me it was straight up a case of him finally giving them the excuse they had been looking for.
All this is my opinion, no inside info at all.
