Just yankin' your chain Grizz... I hate the Cowboys and, yeah, there is a lot of love for the Irish amongst Catholics... but there's also a lot of resentment (Univ. of Dayton, Xavier, BC) of ND's athletic name recognition. There is also a schism over education and academic power/reputation...BC, Georgetown, Jesuit schools versus ND... and a significant rift between many Catholic colleges and the American Bishops, who want more say re; academic freedom.

Cincibuck, my ignorance of the Catholic and Jesuit aspects of some of these Universities is almost as bad as my loathing for some of them (care to guess which one)
As to Weis being fat, as someone who the government says is obese (6'4" 260lbs) I think that CW is somewhat beyond fat, but we'll just have to agree to disagree ![]() |

Nice sig Chief, I wonder if Weis realizes that the decisions he makes can affect his players psyche. By not attempting that field goal, and following that with his reasoning about why they went for it on fourth and a bunch, how must that kicker feel ? Couple that with his question of whether his players have a problem learning (while touting himself as a great teacher) and you have the makings of a lost (in more ways than one) team.

Everyone in the world knows that Charlie is not a good College coach.
That being said keep in mind that he is smart enough to become one and that ND will give him 2 or 3 years to see if he can. Will you sing his praises then? |

God help BC, ND and GT if the Bishops seize academic control. This is the same group who just told me that if I don't vote the way the pope wants me to, I'm going to hell--not exactly the group to nurture academic freedom and quality.

Not sure that he gets 3 years. I think he needs to show significant improvement next year, or he's gone. While the Willingham excuse is ridiculous now, next year it will be pure nonsense. My hunch is that he needs to get to a bowl next year and get to a BCS bowl in '09. Anything less, and they run him.

I don't know. I think ND has gotten themselves into the situation we were in with Coop. You can only burn through so many coaches before their very close fraternity puts a big fat "undesireable job" label on your program. If ND isn't already there, they are playing with fire if they boot another one inside of 5 years. Also, coaches are going to start wondering what is it about ND thats causing a lot of well respected coaches to fall flat on their face. Ty and Davie were and are well respected by their peers, a lot of guys said no thanks during the last search. All that tells me is that the questions about the overall appeal of ND is not being questioned by just the unwashed message board masses. They fire hevy Weisen and their next coaching search is going to be an even bigger embarrassment for them than this last one imo. No big names will come on board and I don't know that they can lower themselves to take a chance on a lesser known up and comer. I think they are weded to their very large bride for the next 3 at a minimum and then he'll pull a Coop and not suck just enough where they end up keeping him much longer than they want to. |

Makes sense and is probably the best scenario for haters of the dome.
