Also, coaches are going to start wondering what is it about ND thats causing a lot of well respected coaches to fall flat on their face. Ty and Davie were and are well respected by their peers, a lot of guys said no thanks during the last search. All that tells me is that the questions about the overall appeal of ND is not being questioned by just the unwashed message board masses.
They fire hevy Weisen and their next coaching search is going to be an even bigger embarrassment for them than this last one imo. No big names will come on board and I don't know that they can lower themselves to take a chance on a lesser known up and comer.
I think they are weded to their very large bride for the next 3 at a minimum and then he'll pull a Coop and not suck just enough where they end up keeping him much longer than they want to.

Excellent point JaxBuck -
Ohio State suffered through this when they became (before Hayes) known as the graveyard of coaches.
Nebraska is definitely suffering through this now with the Solich through Callahan through who knows whom turnstile.
Even 'SC had their troubles and was viewed as teetering close to that edge before PC came over the hill to save their day.
That kind of stigmatic label, it can happen anywhere really. Plus, there is the broadcasting contract money on the table at each renegotiation with NBC. That can further distort the normal response of the AD to less than ideal coaching.
All the agreement aside though, if Weis coughs up another hairball next year it will be very, very hard for ND to consider him a keeper. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

The Irish schedule next year...
9/6 SAN DIEGO STATE
9/13 MICHIGAN
9/20 @ Michigan State
9/27 PURDUE
10/4 STANFORD
10/11 @ North Carolina
10/18 Open Date
10/25 @ Washington
11/1 PITTSBURGH
11/8 @ Boston College
11/15 @ Navy (Baltimore)
11/22 SYRACUSE
11/29 @ USC
I'd be pretty surprised if they don't make a bowl game next year. The schedule isn't nearly as tough and they only have to reach 6-6 (they better watch out for OPEN DATE, bound to give them a hell of a challenge). Of course, the way they have struggled this year makes me wonder.
If they don't make a bowl, I'm guessing CW is gone no matter what the ramifications

This thread seems fitting...
I was born in Troy Ohio, I come from a long line of Buckeye alumni, most of my family bleeds scarlet and gray in a way that most will not understand. My grandfather thinks of Michigan as a foreign [censored]ing country, all of that said...
WHY THE [censored] IS MY MOM A NTRE AME FAN? I got crap today about our schedule, and how we couldn't beat Illinois.. what the [censored] is up with that?
We're not Catholic
We are German, not Irish.
Sure, we drink a lot but what the hell?
My niece is currently at tOSU, my family can usually get any of us into there. My brother, I can accept, but my mom? WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU BE BORN IN OHIO AND LIKE NOTRE-[censored]ING-DAME?
Ok, rant over.

Oh I agree 100%. He spits the bit to the tune of anything less than 6-6 next year and they just might be forced to do it. Like you said at this point they are damned if they do, damned if they don't.
It just breaks my heart.

I have a suggestion for his next gray sweatshirt:
I went to a Fiesta Bowl and all I got was indigestion... and I lost to a REAL coach.

Give your mom [censored] about how Notre Dame couldn't beat Navy...oh yeah, and their 2-9 record, too.
