It sucks that the alternative to Notre Dame being in the Rose Bowl is an SEC team. That's all I can say. I wish Cal had had a better season.

LOL! The REAL story is that ND tried to join the BIG10 very early on but was turned down. Yes, I know the BIG10 changed it's mind a few years ago but at that point it would have been stupid for ND to join.
End result.....
ND would not have the TV contract, the BCS deal or it's scheduling freedoms had the BIG10 let ND in years ago.

The BCS has boned a few of the traditions. I don't see how putting Notre Dame in the Rose Bowl is any better than an SEC team, though. Neither one upholds that tradition. Might as well put a team in there that deserves to be in there, and a bowl game that has a chance to be a game.
LSU might be a tough game for Michigan. I'll be rooting for the Big Ten, as I do every year. Besides, I'd like to see good old Lloyd stick around for a while longer, and if he loses bowl games, comparisons to Cooper will become deafening. And nauseating. But LSU has some tremendous talent. If they figure out how to show that talent on the football field, this game may be a close defensive battle.

When possible I'd like to see tradition preserved as well, but facing an SEC opponent doesn't bother me in the least. The Big Ten-SEC postseason contests over the last decade or so have been tremendously entertaining.

Indeed. I've seen a number of early scoffers thus far who've been quick to post dismissive statements about LSU (claiming the SEC is overrated, etc.), but I think they're a quality team. JaMarcus Russell is a very talented QB, and their defensive stats appear pretty impressive. LSU's definitely not an opponent I'd want anyone to overlook.

Do you think there's a possibility your team (tSUN) will be disapointed in not getting a rematch in the desert and come into the game flat. Call it lack of faith in Llllloyd, but that seems like a real possibility in my mind, especially with the comments from Hart about the rematch on a neutral site being a totally different game and so on. It just seems like without proper team leadership and coaching, you guys could be less than enthusiastic about anything less than a shot at the NC, what are your thoughts about that?

Honestly? I think your comments are much more applicable to the Michigan fan base (or at least a certain element thereof) than the players. I expect the team to focus on the game at hand, and they'll have ample motivation to make a statement.
If anything, I think last season's disappointing finish if not our three-season bowl skid (including the last two trips to Pasadena) would weigh more heavily on the players' minds than anything else, and that's what they'll be wanting to overcome. I don't see them dwelling on the loss in Columbus.
