Not voting in this poll, because what I want is not an option.
I say go back before the BCS, before even the Bowl Coalition, and reset things to the way they used to be.
People obsess way too much about this crap. There was nothing inherently wrong with the old system that occassionally resulted in split NCs, and at least back then you still had the history of the great bowl tie-ins, such as the Big-10/Pac-10 in the Rose, people giving a [censored] about who was in the Cotton Bowl, etc ...
A playoff system won't "fix" anything. It won't give access to the national title game to mid-majors, because mid-majors will get waxed in a war of attrition with the depth of the majors. Could BYU win a national title in the current BCS? No. Could BYU win a national title in a playoff? No. In the old system, a team like BYU could, and did, have a shot at a national championship.
Look at the teams that have realistically competed in the BCS era; the ones that have gone to BCS games versus those that have been left out. A playoff would expose the talent gap, the disparity in depth, and make things even worse, not better.
Parity my ass.

I totally agree, and would point out that thanks to the damn AP we're pretty much back where we were pre-BCS, but with stupid BCS rules mucking up the bowl matchups. The BCS came about, in part, to settle the matter of split NCs between coaches' and media polls, and then just a handful of years later the self-righteous AP leaves because they don't want to "create" the news, just report it. So now we've got... separate coaches' and media polls, again, plus a half-dozen computers and the Harris nonsense. USC still claims a half-title in the BCS era, and the AP continues to make news...
The BCS sucks, and a playoff simply isn't D-IA CFB: I wanna go back...

Sorry there Dryden and Bay Buck, should have given you that option. I left it off because it is the one option I didn't see as a possibility moving forward.

Agree. Talking about which team should have been NC makes more sense than having a Wild Card win the SuperBowl. In CFB you can argue for hours. In most other sports you can only shake your head.
I do think this position fits under "no playoff, tweak the BCS" which is how I voted.
In any case, glad to finally have a thread to talk about this important topic.
Oh - and get rid of the Designated Hitter rule.
