Yeah, well, welcome to big time college football and the internet. Everything you say is going to be picked apart and people are going to look for a reason not to respect you. Everyone gives Tressel crap because he basically doesn't say a whole lot other than "I am proud of our kids, we did our best, they are a great team" but it's a trap to go too far beyond that.

"We have a really exciting class coming in, a lot of great talent here, there's going to be some adjustments, but overall I think Michigan football will be exciting" Something along those lines is much harder to pick apart.

Somehow I'm guessing Christian Wilson isn't that 'one' he referenced.

I never heard that. Not saying it's outright untrue, but Lloyd always felt you earn the #1 both on the field and off it. (Which explains why MM never got it, as he was always kind of walking the line.) In fact I can only think of two players during Carr's tenure that did wear #1 - and Braylon had to talk Carr into letting him have it.

I've seen it referenced often on UM boards (google 'darryl stonum promised' for likewise blog comments), but haven't seen it in an interview (unlike the McGuff #2 thing). Not sure where they got it.

Manningham, Arrington likely to leave UM

ANN ARBOR - Rich Rodriguez does not expect to coach wide receivers Mario Manningham and Adrian Arrington or quarterback Ryan Mallett at Michigan. Manningham and Arrington will skip their senior seasons and Mallett will transfer, according to Rodriguez. "Those are the indications I've gotten," Rodriguez said last night. "I've talked to all three at various times recently. I talked to Adrian today, and he told me he's leaning toward going pro. "We wish all of them the best." When told what Rodriguez said, Jim Mallett insisted his son has not made a decision. "Coach knows more than I do, I guess," Jim Mallett said. Rodriguez later told reporters Manningham and Mallett did not attend a team meeting Monday. Manningham might be a first-round pick after catching 72 passes for 1,174 yards and 12 touchdowns and running 19 times for 119 yards and a score last season. The 6-foot, 178-pound native of Ohio had 65 receptions for 1,136 yards and 15 touchdowns during his first two seasons for the Wolverines.

Your right Jwins, at least on Stonum being promised #1. Braylon Edwards started a scholarshp for the #1 jersey, and it was promised to Stonum.

The "Notre Dame" of 2008: Michigan. Due to a weak non-conference schedule that includes Utah, Miami (Ohio), Notre Dame and Toledo, it won?t be a three-win season, but there will be a rocky transition period for the Wolverines as they get used to Rich Rodriguez?s offensive system and the way he goes about his business. Mallett's dad says QB is officially leaving U-M; Arrington declares for NFL draft

Ryan Mallett’s father said Wednesday the quarterback has left the Michigan football program, while wide receiver Adrian Arrington announced that he will be entering the 2008 NFL draft.


Coach Rich Rodriguez said a day earlier he did not expect to coach Mallett, Arrington or wide receiver Mario Manningham at Michigan. Rodriguez said Arrington and Manningham would skip their senior seasons.


“Today is a very emotional day for me,” Arrington said in a statement released by the school. “As much as I will miss my teammates, friends and Michigan football family, I have always dreamed about playing in the NFL.

Mallett might be reunited with his offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

“He’s on his way home,” Jim Mallett told The Associated Press. “We don’t know where he’s going to go yet, but we need to do something quick. We’re going to visit three, four or five schools.”

The former Texas Class 4A offensive player of the year may end up at Tennessee, which is considering hiring former Michigan offensive coordinator Mike DeBord and quarterbacks coach Scot Loeffler.

“If they’re hired, that would be a real good possibility,” Jim Mallett said. “Ryan really clicked with both coach DeBord and coach Loeffler during the last couple months of the season and during bowl practices, I’ve never seen Ryan throw the ball or read defenses as well as he did.”

I found this quote especially troubling. I wonder if they really can't play any more or RR is trying to show them the door. One would think you as a program and a medical staff would already know if they could physically perform. I really don't remember anybody really getting dinged up in the Cap One bowl on the first.....

Maybe some of the Michigan posters on here can enlighten me?

Hard to say without knowing who they are. One name that comes to mind is Antonio Bass. I have no doubt that the school can use his athletic scholarship for someone else and still pay his way through school. It's unlikely he'll play football again.

Where does everyone expect Arrington to go? With his good blocking, size, hands, athleticism and route running is it out of the question for a late 2 early 3 type pick?

Where would the funds to pay his tuition and board come from?

Schools are permitted to offer full scholarships to players who are no longer able to play due to injury. The medical hardship scholarships also do not count toward the 85 limit.

OSU did it with RJ Coleman and others. I believe funds came from the AD. The NCAA might even have to bless it to make sure you aren't playing games with schollies.
