Hey, HTM and many other skunkbear fans want to be excited about thier team and the mythical Barwis. By all means let them. Hell, encourage them!

As more and more skunkbear fans continue to praise the greatness of Barwis, he can't helped but to be viewed as the true savior of their teetering football program. Barwis has become the panacea that will cure all of the scUMmer's football ills.

The build up of Barwis and his beyond legendary prowess in the eyes of the skunkbear faithful is reminiscent of what Domer fan said about His Heftiness a few years ago. Domer fans bought into the "schematic advantage" crap and the free fall last year was a thing of beauty to witness.

Vulvarine fan has gotten caught up in the Barwis "strength and conditioning advantage", which BTW I find more laughable than the "advantage" Domer fan believed they would have on Saturday afternoons, and with each loss scUM suffers it will be funny to ask scUM fan about the Barwis advantage.

I guess when one's program is teetering, when one's team has lost 4 in a row in The Game, the first ray of sunshine to hit one's ass becomes the beacon that will fix absolutely everything. When that lone ray of sunshine ends up not being the messiah, many others will laugh and be brutal with smart ass comments. So the ultimate moral is to never look at the sun, as a single ray can eventually blind thousands.

Stewart, you have to react to the USA Today preseason poll. I will give West Virginia the benefit of the doubt here and not question their preseason top-10 status, but MICHIGAN?! At 24?! In the entire country?! As far as I'm concerned, if they are bowl-eligible it's a successful season.

I wrote a few years back about the recurring phenomenon of Michigan's overinflated preseason rankings (quite prophetically, I might add; that was the year they started No. 4 and finished 7-5) -- but this is the most flagrant case yet. Have the coaches been living in a cave the past eight months? Did they miss the news about Chad Henne, Mike Hart and Jake Long graduating? Mario Manningham and Adrian Arrington turning pro? Ryan Mallett transferring? Half the offensive line following suit? All at a time when the new coach is trying to implement an offense for which he currently lacks the proper personnel?
I hate to beat this to a pulp, because I've said it several times before, but Michigan's offense is going to stink this season, and nothing short of Charles Woodson's return and/or a 1997-caliber performance from the defense will render Michigan a top-25 team. Which leaves only one possibility: There must be a bylaw in the coaches' poll -- much like the one that requires them to vote the BCS title-game winner No. 1 -- mandating the Wolverines' inclusion.

Why though? Seriously. Why's RR doomed to fail where Tressel succeeded? You say RR's a slimeball, but even if he's as bad as you say, slimeballs win national championships too, just ask Nick Saban. You say the Big East is not as good a conference as the Big Ten, but then again, neither is the Missouri Valley - and I think the gap is a bit wider in your case.

The obvious answer is, you're Ohio State fans so [censored] Michigan. I get it. But that doesn't explain thinking objectively, that a coach who has succeeded at every level he's coached at will suddenly fail when handed far more resources than he's ever seen. Yeah, the competition level goes up too - a bit. It's not like he landed at Northwestern or Minnesota or even Illinois, and has to deal with that competition with probably fewer resources than before. Michigan's an elite program. You could say that RR doesn't place emphasis on the rivalry like Tressel does. OK, probably not - but then, say RR goes 2-4 in six years, are you gonna accept the excuse from Michigan fans that it wasn't Tressel's successes but our failures that caused us to lose four of six?

As far as I'm concerned, if they are bowl-eligible it's a successful season.

It depresses me that this is the predominant sentiment. This attitude let's RR completely off the hook. He wins 8 games and folks will have to eat crow.

Put some pressure on this clown. He has a cupboard full of Michigan talent, a solid incoming class and the best conditioned human beings since Thermopylae. Ten wins minimum.

I can't speak for everyone, but I was never a fan of his at WVU...and I couldn't give two [censored]s either way about wvu. He dominated a weak Big-East after Miami, VaTech and BC left, big deal. Even there he struggled against some of the top teams in his conference. Losing to very average South Florida teams the last two years and going 4-3 against his chief rival Pitt to include one of the epic choke jobs in NCAA history. He deserves credit for winning a couple BCS games, but look at his performance in conference against the teams that had decent defenses (USF x2 and Pitt last year). I see him as all style, little substance. How will his offense do in the Big Ten when he has to face legitimate defenses that see him every year? I don't think he's going to be a vast improvement over Carr in his later years except maybe more bowl wins...simple as that. He'll win some big games, but he'll break your heart too. It's eerie how much that sounds like john Cooper when I type that out. Add in the brash personality (see the wvu/yankees comment last year), the hissy fits on the sidelines and the fact he now coaches our hated rival...it's not rocket surgery.

Succeeded at every stop by that places standards maybe. His career .625 win % isn't likely to play real well at scUM, thats 8 wins in a 13 game season.

Resources and competition go up in the same proportion.

I suppose if you hold his one year at Salem College against him it's that low. Not sure I'm going to judge his coaching based on how he did at a school that dropped its football team.

Besides, would you hold Tressel in such high esteem if he was going 9-4 all the time, as this method would indicate he would do? That's worse than Coop's percentage.

And no, resources and competition do not go up in the same proportion, otherwise you'd be suggesting that the resources at all Big Ten schools are the same across the board because the competition is a step up from the Big East.
