I don't agree; Stonum is the third receiver and is being used about like you'd expect a freshman third receiver to be, with the caveat that RR is throwing a lot of different receiver combos out there to see what's what. It's not his fault that Threet overthrows him and all the other receivers with regularity, so he's missed out on a few catches, but his snaps have gone up in the past two games.

It will be interesting to hear the fan reaction if he keeps trying that in Columbus this november.

It'll be more interesting to hear the fan reaction in Columbus if it works One change from last year is the reads the quarterback makes - and two of the biggest plays all day against Wiscy (the Dual Threet scamper and the Minor TD) were the same exact play with the right reads made by Threet. Threet may be heaving a lot of his passes 5 yards over the head of his receivers, but he's made a lot of good progress learning to run the offense.

LOL nice to see you get excited about a player who isn't going to hit the field until the '10-'11 season when you guys are having so much trouble winning games right now.

'10 OH DE J.T. Moore is a Buckeye!
LOLlerskates. Nice to see you get excited about a player who isn't going to hit the field until the '10-'11 season. And if we're soooooooo bad right now, shouldn't that be a really good reason to get excited over the future, hm?

Spread destined for UM, no matter
Rodriguez says he's used it for 17 years
By JOE VARDON
BLADE SPORTS WRITER
Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez was asked yesterday if he ever thought of delaying his implementation of the spread offense until the Wolverines had players more suited to that scheme. In a word - no. "It wasn't really a decision to make because that's what we do," Rodriguez said. "That's the offense I've been running for 17 years, and there's so many different elements of the spread, we can feature different things - whether it's the pass or the run or various formations out of the spread. No, we were going to run the offense we've been running the last 17 years." UM is last in the Big Ten in scoring (20.8 points per game), total offense (285 yards per game), and passing (148), and next to last in rushing (136.2). "It's not going well for the most part, but it's going well at times," said Rodriguez, who said this was going to be a transition year regardless because of the loss of high-profile players like Chad Henne, Mike Hart, Jake Long, Mario Manningham and Adrian Arrington to the NFL.

Nobody said anything about dumping the system. If you watch the games it's very easy to see the difference between '08 Michigan and '07 West Virginia. The run/pass ratio is close to even, vs. 70/30 run at WVU. That touchdown pass to Kevin Koger, a tight end route over the middle? Not part of the playbook last year. Threet throws downfield far more than Pat White ever did.

Watch the Syracuse/WVU game from last year. Tell me it's any different from the crap being thrown on your field this year.......except without turnovers and actually working.

the issue is why you see the difference.
1. wvu was far more talented, and played from in front just about every game. it makes it easy to stick with your strength of running the ball.
2. threet throws downfield more than pat white ever did because michigan has more plays for 0 or negative yardage than wvu had in 3 years with pat white at qb.
I would posit that if michigan managed to get more positive yards on 1st and 2nd down, and didn't play from behind as often as they do, you would see something closer to 70/30.
