CINCINNATI (AP)?The NCAA won?t reconsider its decision to deny former Cincinnati quarterback Ben Mauk another year of eligibility.
The NCAA initially turned downed Mauk?s request for a sixth year of eligibility in February. But Mauk made a new appeal on grounds that he was hurt as a freshman at Wake Forest when he sat out as a redshirt.
Mauk missed all but one game in 2006 at Wake Forest with a shoulder injury. He transferred to Cincinnati and led the Bearcats to 10 victories last season.
Under NCAA rules, a player has four years of eligibility that must be used in five years.
Cincinnati said Wednesday that Mauk is continuing with appeals in hopes of getting another year of eligibility restored.

not to mention that he transfered without sitting out a year. He already used up one loophole that has been closed, no way the NCAA lets him have another year.

It wasn't really a loophole, the NCAA created the rule and knew it was in place. He took advantage of it, as did many other players. then the NCAA decided not to have the rule anymore.

I'll be honest I feel for Mauk it's not as if he has pro career ahead of him. The pain he goes through just to condition is amazing. He wants to play for the purest of reasons he loves the game.

I agree 100% about Mauk's love of the game....but the NCAA was correct in denying the request and appeal.
