Davis suspended after late return
http://www.dailynews.com/Stories/0,1...623314,00.html
Quote:
HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- USC tight end Fred Davis was suspended from the team and did not accompany the Trojans to Miami on Tuesday. He will not play in the Orange Bowl and will meet Jan. 10 with coach Pete Carroll to discuss his future with the program, according to sources.
Davis missed Monday's practice after he was unable to get a flight from his home in Toledo, Ohio. He has returned late from weekend trips to Ohio several times this season, but this is the first time Carroll has suspended him from a game because of tardiness. He was suspended from the Arizona game for poor academic performance.
Davis arrived at Heritage Hall on Tuesday morning to depart for the airport but was told Carroll would not let him travel to the Orange Bowl.
"He didn't get back in time," Carroll said. -- Scott Wolf

Not to reopen one of the biggest cans of worms in recent recruiting memory, but...
I read a lot on the Insiders message board about this topic. Someone "close" to the Davis family, who worked out with Fred over the holidays, claims that there is some genuine interest on Fred's part in coming back to Ohio and playing for the Buckeyes. Apparently Fred realizes that he was sold a load of crap by PC with all the "#1 guy" stuff. I wonder what kind of interest the staff would have, if any, in taking a guy like FD if he were looking to transfer...

Something tells me that Davis is not happy, and he will transferring soon. Just a hunch, maybe he wasn't Petie's #1 guy after all............

I hope he does not come to OSU, especially with the comment about "poor academic performance." He made his decision and if he wants to look elsewhere that is fine. I just would rather him not look at OSU. We have had our share of problems lately and don't need a kid who pouts and hurts the team when he is not getting his way. Not showing up in time for the biggest game of the season is not the best way to endear yourself to any coach or team.
