Quote "No doubt, every other Division I-A school would have signed Williams and dealt with the consequences as they came. When it came to character issues, they would have echoed Coker."
I don't accept that statement as true. They might be a minority, but there are programs who wouldn't have taken this kid because of all of the legal issues in his past.

One thing that really defines Coach T.:
When presented with the background of Williams, (which at the time only one was "a known" infraction), coach T. passed, without wavering.
Meanwhile, Coker knew of 4 infractions, his problems when he transfered highschools and still took him.

Judge lets UM's top football recruit go to high school prom

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=610 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width=450> FORT LAUDERDALE -- University of Miami's prized football recruit Willie Williams will be able to go to his high school prom on Friday over the objections of the Broward State Attorney's Office, which was concerned about him potentially violating his house arrest.
Broward Circuit Judge Michael Kaplan ruled Wednesday that the Carol City High linebacker could go to the dance, but only if his football coach drove him back and forth. Williams has been wearing an electronic ankle monitor since February after he was accused of violating his probation in a 2002 burglary case during a recruiting trip to the University of Florida. He faces criminal charges in Gainesville that he set off three fire extinguishers in a hotel and grabbed a woman against her will.

Kaplan warned Williams that if doesn't comply with the terms of his house arrest, he will be going to jail.
Assistant State Attorney Spencer Multack said that based on Williams' problems with staying inside his house he shouldn't be allowed to be out Friday night.
"The prom is really the last place we think Mr. Williams needs to be," the prosecutor said. "He's going to have plenty of times in his life to be celebrating. I think he could forego this one occasion on this one time due to the nature of the circumstances." http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/s...a-sports-front

Coach T is the man
Something tells me that Coker is going to have to assign a couple TAs to chauffeur Willie everywhere and monitor his activity 24 hours a day.

I have a feeling Willie will give Florida LB Channing Crowder a run for his money in the "let's see who can get arrested the most our freshman year" competition. Crowder's so bad that the Gainesville cops recognized him when he was trying to flee his last crime scene. It's no wonder Zook paired the two up on Willie's official visit. They have a lot in common it seems.

Willie Williams update
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/s...orts-headlines
Quote:
Miami recruit Willie Williams entered a plea of no contest to two charges in a Gainesville courtroom Monday, ending most of the legal battles stemming from a January recruiting visit to the University of Florida.
For one felony count of criminal mischief and one misdemeanor count of battery, Williams was sentenced to a total of one year probation and must pay restitution, State Attorney Bill Cervone said.
Perhaps more relevant to his football career, the plea means Williams violated his previous probation. As a result, Williams will meet with a Broward County judge June 30 to finalize his fate for the violation.
"These pleas constitute that he violated his probation," Cervone said. "Now the judge [in Broward County] will have to decide how to deal with him."
Miami won't officially offer Williams a scholarship until an admissions hearing, which will take place once his legal matters are decided -- likely in early July.
Williams faced three charges stemming from the same recruiting weekend trip in January. Monday's no-contest pleas settled two of them -- a misdemeanor charge of hugging a female student against her will and a felony charge of setting off fire extinguishers in a Gainesville hotel.
Although no restitution was required for hugging the female student, Williams was forced to pay $1,500 for setting off the extinguishers, Cervone said.
Williams settled another battery charge -- an incident at a Gainesville nightclub -- out of court. Although criminal charges were not pursued, Williams must pay $1,300 restitution to the victim.
Currently under house arrest, Williams has been wearing an electronic ankle monitor since February, when he was accused of violating his probation on the recruiting trip to Gainesville.
