I, for one, found the second article well written and moving.
That said -- I think if anyone were to send money - it should be postmarked via a PO Box near the Auburn campus. ![]() Last edited by sandgk; 06-12-2007 at 10:56 PM. |

Again, he made it very clear who should and shouldn't thoughout the article and you want to hold onto the last portion about the "anonymous". You keep doing that. At best he just took the lock off a gate that still has a huge "DO NOT ENTER" sign. In other words, the people know what is right and what is wrong. If they decide to do something wrong you cannot hold Dodd responsible. |

You also have no idea what regard he gave to the impact this would have. Actually him stating over and over how this would be an NCAA violation if the wrong people did it puts a fault in your arguement of the opposite. |

As far as me having no idea what regard he gave to the impact this would have, like you, I know what his intentions were when he wrote this piece and I know what regard he gave to the impact his advice would have. He could care less. As far as his recognition that providing gifts to the family would violate NCAA rules, he makes his intentions known when he writes Quote:

He is trying to help a family. You are right. He probably doesn't care if someone decides to break a rule to do so, and he shouldn't. That isn't his problem, and if the person is dumb enough, after repeated warnings, to do so then so be it. It's plain to see that he was trying to show how flawed the NCAA system was AND help Juan's family in the same article.......VERY plain to see. |

This issue (THE REAL ONE ABOUT THE NCAA REGULATIONS BEING RIDICULOUS) has been a very hot topic of late, especially after they made the rare move to allow support for Ray Ray last year. There's no hidden agenda here other than to continue to rail against the NCAAs regs. He's using Juan's story to that end. Meanwhile you have some conspiracy theory that he's soliciting help for Juan...what a joke. If we WANTED to do that, he could have done so easily without this "open letter". Again, what a joke. |

Dodd is not trying to destroy the OSU athletic department, but he's certainly no philanthropist here either. He's using Garnier's story to write a story criticizing the NCAA and once again prove just how smart and reasonable Dennis Dodd is. This is not about OSU or Juan Garnier, it's about Dodd.

If Dodd desires to attack NCAA regs, go for it. However, when he encourages others to take actions that can place ANY university's athletic program in trouble, that is where he crossed the line. |

Now here comes Dodd with his special interest story. I don't recall Dodd mentioning if Juan had attempted to advance his cause through NCAA channels. The NCAA responds quickly to these types of matters. The NCAA ruled on Ray Rays situation in a timely manner, and it also granted relief for Nader's family in a timely manner. So what's the big deal now about using these NCAA procedures put in place for situations like the one described by Dodd? Yes, a portion of Dodd's article was devoted to banging on the "NCAA bylaws are crazy" drum just as many other people have done in the past and will do in the future. Dodd should have stopped there but instead took it upon himself to encourage people to mail donations to Juan's mother in Boston knowing full well that this can create problems not only for OSU but for any school that Juan may transfer into. This is where he crossed the line. This needlessly places any university's compliance department between a rock and a hard place. |
