If Dodd desires to attack NCAA regs, go for it. However, when he encourages others to take actions that can place ANY university's athletic program in trouble, that is where he crossed the line.

He should have stopped at the human interest story. Sorry, but he crossed the line.

It is very relevant if he refuses to reach in his own pocket while imploring others to engage in actions that may violate NCAA bylaws.

Yes, a portion of Dodd's article was devoted to banging on the "NCAA bylaws are crazy" drum just as many other people have done in the past and will do in the future. Dodd should have stopped there but instead took it upon himself to encourage people to mail donations to Juan's mother in Boston knowing full well that this can create problems not only for OSU but for any school that Juan may transfer into. This is where he crossed the line. This needlessly places any university's compliance department between a rock and a hard place.

Just because Dodd didn't mention anything about Juan seeking relief (that would require REAL investigation and effort) doesn't mean he's surreptitiously doing anythign else. It MIGHT mean he's lazy, or didn't think of it, but what you suggest is laughable. And as usual, WE cross the line and blame journalists for so much...

No he doesn't nullify something that he states quite a few times by posting that last comment once......not to mention he made is clear who SHOULDN'T be doing it period. Unless he stated that you shouldn't listen to anything he wrote prior, you are reaching.

WTF are you talking about? YOU are the person who mentioned above that the Ray Ray matter was a rare thing. Here are your exact words:

I dont think there is anyone in disagreement that Dodd has potentially put Ohio State in a bit of trouble by making this situation more public (and his declaration at the end).

We get it. Most of us are weighing that against the fact that he was trying to make a point about the NCAA bylaws and help a family in the process so we can look past that.

LOL!!! At times I feel as if I exist in a parallel universe. My only argument in this thread has been that Dodd's call for donations has carelessly and needlessly put OSU's athletic department in a bad situation. Here is my first post on this subject:

I don't see why LR is getting beat to death over this. I don't recall him ever saying Dodd is asking OSU fans to send donations just so OSU gets in trouble. But his stupid article (and it is stupid....you don't write something that could influence other stupid people to break rules) could get OSU in trouble. He isn't in any danger of getting in trouble, so he has no problems writting it. But I, as an OSU fan, have problems with him writting it.

Let's face it.....OSU fans as a group (like every other fanbase) aren't the brightest bulbs on the tree. Some of the people who take OSU way too seriously might just send money to this family. Now, Dodd isn't trying to get OSU in trouble, but what happens if his article makes people donate and thus gets OSU in trouble anyways?
