Tressel vs Carr - Who Is More Respected?

I would love to hear GG thought's on the coaching staffs and how they differ from XP when he feels the time is right to divulge.

I have read a lot of what kids think about JT, I just have never seen real glowing reviews about LLLLoyd, although he continues to get quality kids.

Although I see the "proof" I still find it hard to believe carr is so well respected. The only problem with this statistically is that the players that played for a coach obviously choose to go there and therefore have an upfront "respect" or high opinion for the coach. Therefore this shows that the players are getting what they expected more than anything else.

This doesn't mean that the average recruit will view Tressel and carr evenly.

If you think that is generally so then how do you explain the ratings for Paterno, Stoops, Fulmer and other coaching luminaries on that list with established reputations?

Go ahead - do a side-by-side with Tressel vs. Paterno - or Carr, or Fulmer or more obviously John L Smith.

Watch the last group of answers - on recommending the coach to a recruit, going to work with him.
Watch the last group of characterizations of each coach.

There are some stunning answers in the "Troubled" "Corrupt" and other negative characterizations for the coaches other than Carr and Tressel mentioned above. Often times this is coupled to a low score in the coach taking an interest in the recruit once they are on campus, or that they feel the coach promised one thing and delivered another. (The worst jab though is on JP's differential treatment of caucasian and African-American players - but that is beyond the scope of this thread entirely).

Bottom line, by conferred reputation at least Goebel is being courted by two of the very best respected coaches (by past players at least - that data has not been updated since 2005) in the Big 10.

I just hope he ends up being coached by the man that more players say they would wish to see themselves work for, or another relative be coached by - and that is JT.

Nice find indeed. As to the validity of the data, you may notice that all the questions are pretty much behaviorally anchored, thus less likely to be biased by personal liking of the coaches.

Sampling bias certainly applies here since these are players self-selected to play for these coaches. But it is interesting to see that how favorably these two compare to most others. Sample size is another thing to keep in mind when using this information as well.

Back to GG and maybe other recruits, this information certainly confirms what kind of coach JT is. 9.5 out of 10 is amazing by any stretch.

I withhold my judgment on Carr though.

Carr may do some unclassy things on the field... but the guy is well respected by most, and a good influence on all the kids he brings in.. There is nothing wrong with Lloyd Carr as a person or coach, other than the fact he can't beat Tressel on the field..

IMHO Carr also does a lousy job of preparing his teams for bowl games, beyond that, I hope they keep him forever.

Les Miles' rating is flat out terrible. 62.5% say he is corrupt.

I don't know, but I would imagine that coaches that have left programs for higher profile positions (i.e. Meyer and Miles), probably do not get rated very highly by the players which they left behind. That being said, what's Joe Pa's excuse?

Tressel vs Myer was interesting. JT was higher BY A FULL POINT in every category except two - the extent to which it is "His way or the Highway" and the extent to which he embarrasses his players.

Of course, Meyer embarrassed our players too.

Now why in the world would anyone believe that Carr isn't well respected? He has been the Head coach at one of the premier universities for years, has won a NC and hasn't many problems in getting good players. He may not get the ones he wants and he may not do well in some years but he does project a good enough image apparently to have recruited two preseason Heisman candidates and possibly a first round lineman. That doesn't happen unless you are well respected.
