Dick Rod’s WVU offence doesn’t scare me at all, if you took West Virginia 2007 and gave them winged helmets I wouldn’t care. We all know it, but I’ll say it again to make my point clear; the Big Ten is disrespected with the perception that it is a big slow conference way too often. The Big Ten is bigger, yes, but it is also faster than the Big East. Now, I have to give him enough respect to believe that he will want a more balanced offence at Michigan. If he is dead set on running his offence from this season in the Big Ten year in year out he will need a Vince Young or Tim Tebow to make it work and there aren’t many of those. Not only are there not many of those, but the Youngs and Tebows of the world are smart enough to go where they will learn to be a good quarterback, not a direct snap running back that throws to change things up.

In 2005 Young attempted 285 passes completing 182 of them for 2,769 yards, conversely he only had 136 rushes for 850 yards, 267 of which came in one game. Tim Tebow threw 317 times completing 217 passes for 3,132 yards while running 194 times for 838 yards. Pat White on the other hand only threw 197 times completing 137 of them for 1,548 yards, he ran 177 times for 1,185 yards.

Now before everyone starts talking about how unfair of a comparison that is because those two are heisman award winners lets look at two other mobile quarterbacks from this year.

Juice Williams compares most favorably with White, he threw 232 times completing only 132 for 1,498 yards, he ran 150 times for 774 yards. He was benched for a game for his performance so I’ll throw the backup who is also a mobile quarterback in for a complete comparison to Illinois. Eddie McGee 54 passes completing 28 of them for 388 yards he ran 29 times for an additional 146. Illinois’ total is 160 completed passes for 1,886 yards with 179 running plays for 920 yards.

Now as McGee is supposed to be the future of Illinois spread attack and he is supposed to be the better passer you might be thinking if Zook found himself a better passer at Illinois maybe Dick Rod had a better passer to take over after White. Jarrett Brown also played most of a game for White due to injury his stats? 48 with 31 completions for 341 yards 49 rushes for 327 yards, those stats say he was not looking to throw more in the future.

The forth and final player is Dennis Dixon, Dixon played less games than White, but he is also the only one that is a senior in this list so he did have more experience than White. Dixon threw 254 passes completing 172 of them for 2,136 yards he ran 105 times for 583 yards.

I won’t even compare him to Troy Smith because we all know what Troy did and it isn’t even close. On this list excluding McGee and Brown White is the only player to throw less than 200 times. The only player he completed more passes and got more passing yards than is Williams who was benched for a game. He and Williams are the only two to run more times than the amount of passes they completed, and the only player to run more times than him is Tebow who was on the field a ton.

The last thing that White and Williams have in common is that they are the least likely of the group to become NFL quarterbacks. All of the coaches responsible for the development of these players have or are doing a better job of turning a mobile quarterback into an efficient passer than Dick Rod.

Without more passing or a Vince Young or Tim Tebow to run it his offence is going to be hurting in the Big Ten. Again like I said I expect he’ll be more balanced even with a mobile quarterback in the future, but without the evidence if I wanted to play quarterback at the next level I’d follow Tim Tebow, Vince Young, Tory Smith, Dennis Dixon or Eddie McGee not Pat White and Jarrett Brown.

NOTE: I left out Vince Young’s National Championship game, it still gave him one more game due to the Big XII championship.

I'll be honest, his offense does scare me, but his defense makes me laugh. He's in the big east and it's going to take a few years for him to build what he wants, how long will tsun give him to build that? And as he's building it, how quickly will the big10 adapt? face it,, we have good coaches in our conference, we may laugh at them, but the reality is they do adapt and that will be is downfall. Tressel won't sit there, watch 10 games and say "we're doing our traditional defense" when they come to town. I welcome more spread offense teams, especially from Michigan. This will hurt their NFL prospects in the long run, it's seen as if you want to be an NFL Quarterback that Michigan is a great school for that, just as Runningbacks with tOSU. So take away a strong recruiting point from them, I am sure it will pay off in the long run...

He's going to Michigan, not Minnesota. The cupboard isn't exactly bare, starting with Mallet, a QB with a year's worth of experience for them and if he gets the 6'6 kid from PA who's tagged as "The Next Vince Young" he could be 2 deep at the most important position on the field.

As for defense, that may well be why he's going to Michigan. At WVU he was never going to have enough athletes to have BOTH a great offense and a great defense. He can do that at Michigan.
