Orange Bowl (The Other 'Shoe)
Miami Manager Recommends Demolishing The OB
Robert Sullivan/Getty Images If the Miami City Commission approves the city manager's recommendation, the Orange Bowl will meet the wrecking ball next year. Miami city officials have recommended that the Orange Bowl be demolished and its salvageable parts -- even the urinals -- sold off as memorabilia. City manager Pete Hernandez said Thursday that he will recommend the stadium be demolished, and he is expecting the Miami City Commission will approve. The plan to level the 70-year-old football stadium, the site of five Super Bowls, memorable college football games and former home of the Miami Dolphins, was not unexpected. The stadium has fallen into disrepair and lost its last major tenant when the University of Miami decided to move its home football games to Dolphin Stadium. Good riddance.
You want to know everything you need to know about 'Cane pride? I was looking at pictures of the OB on Google images and ran across this: ![]() Yes folks, this is a print you can buy. Nothing screams school pride like a framed photo of 30% attendance at one of your home games. |

I was going to start a thread on this. Is anyone, other than maybe all 27 Cryami fans, sad to see it go? Personally, even before I hated "Da U", I thought it was a [censored]hole. Ugly as sin. Not to mention the crowds were always pathetic.

![]() Jan. 1, 1977 - Orange Bowl Ohio State 27, Colorado 10 Woody Hayes earned his final bowl victory in OSU?s lone appearance at the Orange Bowl. After falling behind 10-0, the Buckeyes unleashed previously injured Rod Gerald at quarterback and the switch from Jim Pacenta to the quick-silver Dallas native was too much for the Buffaloes. Ohio State scored 27 straight points, with Jeff Logan scampering in from 36 yards late in the first quarter to start the barrage. A 99-yard Buckeye drive dominated the second quarter and resulted in Pete Johnson?s final OSU touchdown with just 24 seconds showing in the half. That gave OSU a 17-10 lead and the Bucks controlled the second half. Gerald ran for 91 yards and a touchdown and threw for 59 yards to capture the Most Valuable Offensive Back Award. Ohio State pocketed a share of the Big Ten championship and finished No. 5 in the final UPI rankings. Ohio State Football - Central Ohio News - www.centralohio.com |

Very. When they built the real Shoe. Max capasity was 85,000 (didn't have south stands at that time). University officials were worried that they would never sell out any games. I think the first game in the Shoe was about 65,000+.
