Six years ago when Cooper was let go from Ohio State there was a mad scramble and alot of guessing who would be the next coach for the Buckeyes. Lo and behold it was WHO ? Jim Tressel ? Well - the rest is history huh ?
Now Tsun is almost in the same situation but with much more time on thier hands to deternine who thier next guy will be. I personally don't think it will be Les Miles. It could be someone who alot of us would never think about.
During the interview periods I think Tsun will take a hard look at thier next guy. Just like Ohio State did. That is just MHO. Oh by the way wasn't Les miles at the helm at Oklahoma State when the Buckeyes dismantled them in San Antonio. Just a thought.

Yes, so? The complete disparity in the talent level between Oklahoma State and Michigan/Ohio State means that doesn't have anything at all to do with his coaching ability and wont have any bearing at all on the hiring process.

I think Big Blue is going to take their time with this decision. If I was TSUN's AD, there is no way that I would want to be another Nebraska or Notre Dame and potentially mess this up.
If you take your time and lose a few recruits in the next few years then what do you really lose? You'll probably still get an Alamo Bowl, which is still pretty decent for a Big Ten team-even Michigan. Meanwhile you will know that the future will be even brighter.

scUM needs a dynamic personality to come in there and totally change things. This is a critical hire and if the wrong choice is made that program could collapse in on itself like Ntre Ame or Nebraska. tOSU was in the same situation in 2001 and hit a homerun with JT. It's going to take them looking outside the whole "m*ch*g*n man" bull[censored]. As great a coach and man as Bo was, you still hear them saying "would Bo want him?". That could be a big problem if Martin and Carr (depending on how much say he has, and you gotta think he;ll have some) are too afraid to step outside what they think "Bo would want". Personally, I'd take a hard look at Harbaugh (though he's probably burnt that bridge) or Kelly.

An OC or DC would be good for continuity with the existing players. The problem is that just as Ohio State wanted to distance themselves from John Cooper as much as possible, Michigan may want to do the same. The current OC and DC can get jobs elsewhere, I'm sure (just having the name "Michigan" on the resume is going to impress a lot of teams).

After tOSU went through this process a few years ago, it struck me that Andy Geiger was the person who had the instinct to know JT, a relative unknown in comparison to the others names that were in the hat, was the right man for the job. Geiger paved the way for JT to come and take the regins at one of the biggest and most storied college football programs. From what little I know about him, Bill Martin (a Wittenberg grad) *ain't* no Andy Geiger.

As much as it would pain me to have an Austintown Fitch alum (and a guy that graduated but two years behind me) become the head coach at the Empire of Evil, I would think that he's a bigger player in this than many may think...
