I'm suprised to see that much consistent love for Steltz.

No offense but when I watch LSU he is not one of the players that jumps out at me(except of course when he got absolutely detonated in the UK game). Probaably speaks more to how good the overall talent level of LSU is and my not really knowing that much about him prior to this year.

BTW greenies to any LSU fan that has Youtube of that unbelievible collision.

Unless they changed it recently, the NCAA recognizes the All-America teams selected by the Associated Press, American Football Coaches Association, Football Writers Association of America, The Sporting News (TSN), and the Walter Camp Football Foundation to determine consensus All-Americans.

So here are the totals:

Steltz is pretty cool. I thought he was a more exciting player than Dorsey this year (but then again, Dorsey has been playing wounded ever since that stupid chop block in the Auburn game). In the threads on here discussing how Ohio State should prepare for LSU, I found it pretty interesting that so many Buckeyes had a bunch of cool stuff to say about him (I was surprised at how well they knew our team).

Out of high school, Scout.com ranked him the #3 safety prospect in the US (4 star) and Rivals.com ranked him the #11 safety in the US (4 star). He went to one of the largest high schools we have in Louisiana (an all-boy school at that) and played RB, S and kick returner (his longest two kick returns were a 98-yard return and a 91-yard return). He was first-team all-state as a senior.

At LSU, Steltz wasn't a full time starter until this year. During his sophomore and junior seasons, he was only a starter on our nickel and dime packages (he had 1 INT, 40 tackles in 2005 and 4 INTs, 42 tackles in 2006).

But yeah, Steltz didn't really jump out at anybody until this year. I remember the first game of the season, thinking, who the hell is this white guy at safety? But he quickly became my favorite player on our D. The guy is crazy. He just loves knocking the crap out of people. But it's not just that he is a hard-hitter that makes him so awesome.

Look at his stats this year:
1 sack, 3 forced fumbles, 6 interceptions, 7 pass break-ups, 97 tackles

Ohio State's Laurinaitis repeats as first-teamer

Ohio State middle linebacker James Laurinaitis was named a first-team All-American by the Associated Press on Tuesday, giving the junior a first-team clean sweep of the five major All-America teams.
Laurinaitis is the 36th Buckeye to be named a first-team All-American more than once, following linebacker A.J. Hawk, who made it in 2004 and 2005. If he returns for his senior season, Laurinaitis could become the eighth three-time All-American at Ohio State, with safety Mike Doss the most recent Buckeye to hit the triple in 2002.
On the AP team, Laurinaitis was joined by second-teamers Vernon Gholston at defensive end and Malcolm Jenkins at cornerback, while right tackle Kirk Barton made the third team.

Well, at least Steltz was playing in his natural position and not at cornerback unlike some certain Ohio State corner on the 2002 NC team...




(BP inside joke... Some delusional OSU fans thought Dustin Fox was a very bad cornerback and he should be playing his "natural" position at safety... Dustin held is own and more at the corner spot for 4 years and now plays on Sundays at that position)
