Danny Hope
It's being reported the former Eastern Kentucky coach will join Joe Tillers staff and take over after this season.

Ron Zook has a special ability to treat people from all walks of life equally and with respect. He is especially beloved by minorities who can recognize disingenuous phoneys a mile away. Since a large number of the best football players are minorities, Coach Zook has an advantage in recruiting.

I doubt this works out as well as it did with the transition from Keady to Painter.
Congrats Joe on a fine carrer!

Yeah I'm kinda shocked that he picked his successor from a school like Eastern Kentucky? What the bleep has anyone from EKU ever done?

I will say that I think it is pretty classy of Purdue to allow Tiller to pick his replacement and groom him for a season. I wonder if the debacle that is also known as the scUM coaching search had something to do with the way that Purdue handled this. I know Carr had some veto power in the scUM search since Kelly from Cincy was never a canditate because of some past issues in TStateUN. I just have to wonder how much say he had as it got late in the process because DickRod wouldn't seem to be a Carr kind of guy. Wisky seemed to turn out just fine with Alvarez choosing his own successer so I hope this trend continues and when the time comes that Tress wants to hang up the vest tOSU lets him select and train our next leader.
And from one fisherman to another, hope the fish are biting Joe.

I think it is more of a Purdue style of handling these retirements than it is anything with UM. Remember, this is exactly how Purdue handled the retirement of Keady last year. Painter was selected as the future by Keady a few years ago.

Danny Hope was the head coach at EKU from 2002-2007. Compiled a 35-22 record over those 6 years. Offensive line coach at Purdue from 1997-2000, and offensive coordinator at Louisville in 2001.
So basically, he coached through Tillers first 4 years, meaning he coached during the Brees era.
Head coaching records through each season at Eastern Kentucky:
2002, 8-4, 3rd place conference finish
2003, 7-5, 2nd place conference finish
2004, 6-5, 3rd place conference finish
2005, 7-4, 2nd place conference finish
2006, 6-5, 4th place conference finish
2007, 9-3, 1st place conference finish
Scoring offense over the years:
2002, averaged 31.9 points per game, 15th place 1-AA
2003, averaged 28.9 points per game, 40th place 1-AA
2004, averaged 26.4 points per game, 50th place 1-AA
2005, averaged 31.5 points per game, 24th place 1-AA
2006, averaged 21.6 points per game, 67th place 1-AA
2007, averaged 31.8 points per game, 25th place 1-AA
Overall, though, on the Tiller subject, I personally thought he had a fine career. He enhanced the overall quality of football at Purdue, and raised the bar for that school.

Agreed. With the recent backstabbing and dishonesty being shown by some recent coaching hires I hope that more schools take note of Purdue, Wisky and FSU and their handling of replacing coaches. This is the most honorable way I can think of for a program to replace a long time coach, not by stealing one away from another school under a shroud of secrecy and lies.
