I know this has been on the site before but check this link out. It makes you proud that we have a coach like JT....

Wingate, sweet avatar!!

I would want my son to play for a coach who gives a crap off the field as well as on. As a parent, you depend on these coaches to be a mentor/father-figure. That said:

Weis
RichRod
Bowden (the old one!)

JoPa didn't score particularly well, though he had a perfect score on emphasizing getting a degree and on "it's the coach's way or the highway". Everything else indicated a coach that's not really in touch with his players. The only other current B10 coach I saw on there was Joe Tiller, who also didn't fare well (5.5).

If Iowa had done better the last couple of seasons, I think TSUN would have gone after him hammer and tong. I also think that if Bo was still alive, even with Ferentz's record, they would have leaned more his and/or Miles' way and would have avoided Dick Rod entirely.

Where JoePa is concerned, I really think there are only a couple of ways he is going to ever leave, foremost among them being feet first. The next would be some sort of debilitating health issue, like a stroke. The only other possibility is resignation, because there is no way in hell he would get fired. I can't see him resigning either, because he's been coaching in one form or another since Truman was in the White House, and has been head coach at Penn State almost as many years as I have been alive.

There's an outside chance he might take a swing at somebody on the sidelines a la Woody given his blowups at officials recently, but I doubt it. I think PSU is destined/doomed to ride him into the ground.

How about, since I'm a freshman, I talk about the coaches I'd want to play for.

I'd like to stay north, in some shape or form. I know that part.

Tressel at Ohio State, cause it would be like a dream.
Dantonio at Michigan State, cause he has the same values as Tressel. And I could still hate scUM.
Jagodzinski at Boston College, cause he seems like a hard worker, who cares about his players, and who cares about his team.
Mike Riley at Oregon State, cause he is highly regarded as a nice guy, who cares about his players. And he wins bowl games.

Those would be my 4 guys. They care about their players, they care about education, they care about ethics, and they win football games. The combined bowl record of the coaches on that list = 9-4.

Keeping my 2 yr old son in my thoughts, I'd have to say I'd least like to see him play for:

Houston Nutt -- Besides the fact that the guy just seems like a used-car salesman to me, I haven't seen him really do a lot in the way of actually developing players. I think he was more than happy to leave Arkansas after the fact that McFadden & Jones were both leaving.

Charlie Weiss -- Something about him just seethes arrogance. He may actually be a nice guy, I don't know, I just judge him from what I see in the media.

Nick Saban -- While I actually like him as a coach, I would be concerned about my child getting in his doghouse to never come out (see Justin Vincent). As well as the "trust" factor, see above reference to a used-car salesman.

Charlie Weis so far has shown me nothing that says he can develop a player, that would be a big consideration for any team.

Nick Saban will leave, it's just a matter of time and money, leaving your kid there you might as well have a transfer school in mind.

Rick Neuheisel, I would like my kid to stay out of trouble, and maybe eligible to play a bowl game once in a while.

Whoever is coaching Miami, sorry, to many kids go there and afterwards are in jail or worse...

Bobby Bowden, sorry, if you have kids that aren't smart enough to pass an online course on music, that should tell you how dumb your players really are.

Urban Meyer, the jury is still out on this one, but I just think it's a matter of time and money before he's off to try something else. Granted, I can forgive him for not staying at Utah, and I may be wrong, but like I said, the jury is still out, I may be wrong here.

Who I would not want
-Charlie Weis-Egotistical Jabba the Hutt clone-in appearance and ethics
-Phil Fulmer-same thing as Charlie
-RR-I would want my daughter to feel comfortable around my son's teammates-and I sure as hell wouldn't w/ the thugs at WVU, plus, he coaches scUM now, a double whammy
-Urban Meyer-what he said after the bowl game, plus the fact that his offense is a meat grinder for players

Now, who I WOULD want-besides Tressel, of course

-Tom O'Brien-NC State-ex-Marine, St.X alum, hardcore guy who really expects his players to be student athletes
-Mack Brown-seems like a genuinely good guy, seems to really care about his players and treat them well
-Paul Johnston-Georgia Tech-if a guy has the success he has had at the Naval Academy, he knows how to be a leader, treat his players like men, and cope w/ high academic expectations
-Mark Dantonio-serious guy, cares about his players, intense attitude
-Pete Carroll

I'm just going to go ahead an nix all the SEC, minus Rich Brooks and Vandy's coach, and Duke/Cutcliffe, I guess croom is alright as well...
No to Weis, Carroll (I want my kid to care about academics), Zooker, RR, Petrino, Petrino, Petrino, Sabin.
Did I mention I wouldn't want my kid playing for the money chasing bastard that is Bobby Petrino
