Muschamp brings intensity, impressive resume to Texas' defense

AUSTIN, Texas -- Will Muschamp didn't get his wish. He got hundreds of thousands of hits on YouTube, but he didn't get his wish.

The desire of Auburn's defensive coordinator in the video was to, "Shut these mother------ out." The mofos being Arkansas during a 9-7 Tigers' victory. The embarrassment being Muschamp's when the TV clip of his fired-up sideline rant went viral. Suddenly, www stood for Worldwide Will.

"It's amazing because of the YouTube situation how many Baptist preachers I've had to answer to," said Muschamp, sitting in his new office that overlooks the Royal-Memorial Stadium field.

"The year before (Arkansas) had rushed 270 yards and at that point in the game they had about 28, so I was kind of happy."

Mizzou's Alexander to undergo knee surgery

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri linebacker Van Alexander will have surgery Monday after suffering a knee injury in practice.

Alexander tore his right anterior cruciate ligament after intercepting a Chase Daniel pass on the final play of practice on Thursday. The senior-to-be, who started eight games last season at strongside linebacker, will miss the rest of spring practice but is expected to be healthy when the Tigers open the 2008 season on Aug. 30 against Illinois in St. Louis.

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Any signs that complacency might have affected Chase Daniel were quickly erased early in Missouri's spring practice.

During a routine practice in which the Tigers' defense had made one too many stops to suit him, Missouri's senior quarterback was in coach Gary Pinkel's ear for most of the last few periods of their work that day.

"He was telling me, 'Coach, we've got to put the ball on the 30-yard line, offense versus defense. We've got to do it. We've got to do it,'" Pinkel said.
