But to put it into perspective Brandon Saine ran a 4.29 at around 40 pounds heavier than Rainey.

And keep in mind that Saine ran the fastest HS 200m time in the country as a junior and was 3rd and 6th respectively in the 60m and 100m. These are based off of his official times in electronically timed meets. If you think there's a half dozen people on FL's team that are as fast or faster than him then I want to get some of the stuff you're smoking.

Quarterback questions prevail around Southeastern Conference
HOOVER, Ala. (AP) -- Steve Spurrier is hoping Tommy Beecher can shut South Carolina's revolving door at quarterback. Auburn's Tommy Tuberville isn't used to having a full-fledged quarterback battle going into August.
Outside of Florida with Tim Tebow and Georgia with Matthew Stafford, it's a common issue facing Southeastern Conference coaches these days. At least seven are either seeking a No. 1 quarterback or preparing to start a new one.
Spurrier proclaimed Beecher the starter after spring practice and said Friday at SEC media days that he has told the junior that he doesn't need to worry about getting yanked for throwing an interception or two.

Now I know the 100m isn't the same race as the 40yd dash, but come the [censored] on. They'd have you believe that a guy who runs an officially timed 10.01 in the 100m is middle of the pack on their team in speed. This is more typical SEC Mythology.

Don't blow Demps's speed out of proportion... he is definitely the fastest American high schooler in history now but I can name at least 15 guys faster in the 100m than him. Heck, he finished last in his heat in the Olympic Trials semi-finals (I was rooting for him to make the finals... would have been neat to see a high schooler do that).
If you have ever watched one of his races he gets stronger as the race goes on... he is very strong in the last 30-40 meters. Rainey beating Demps in a 40yd race is not far fetched at all, especially if Rainey is very explosive over the first 10-15 yards.

Is Demps really a football player or just a track guy in uniform? I know Rainey is a football player.

I'll defer to the more football knowledgeable on the board for his football potential though it is obvious he has a great deal of talent to garner a scholarship from the Gators. I do know he has tremendous potential on the track if he were to pursue it.

Bro, there's no need to blow his speed out of proportion. He ran a 10.01 in the 100m in an electronically timed meet. Those 40yd dash times aren't official. Rainey's best time in the 100m was 10.61. Now, I ran HS track and know that you will almost never lose a race with that kind of time. But .60 seconds in the 100m is an eternity. Sure, some guys start and/or finish better than others. But, I don't think it's very realistic that Demps would have the speed to blow Rainey out of the water in a 100m by .60 seconds after starting the first 40 yds of the race behind him. To run a 10.01 you have to have a good start right out of the blocks AND finish strong.

I believe he was referring to the 'right now on the PLANET' portion of your previous comment as being 'out of proportion', and he gave evidence as to why it was.
