BTW the SEC champion hardly has a free pass to the MNC.
for all the screaming their fans do for "being screwed by the system" even though a former SEC commish set up the friggin BCS in the first place, the SEC was absolutely brutal last year as it was the year before.
Was LSU the best two-loss team last year? Maybe - maybe not. But they did, however, get into the MNC game and won the game. That's all that matters and that's all that would matter in a playoff system that we will never see anyway.

I fail to see how being selected over equally or more qualified competition on the basis that you won the SEC does not constitute a free pass.
Either way, as I said before, I favor insight into the BCS. It's a cartel; that may not necessarily mean it should go, but it can't continue to divert money into schools without giving everyone a fair shake. I mean, the reason these leagues are granted the right to hold a monopoly is because it benefits the consumer; if there is no equal consideration given to all the contenders, then the system is not benefiting the consumer and should be changed.
Hence, oversight. It's not a bad thing. Now, Congress may not be the body to get the job done correctly, but the economic considerations of the situation do warrant some form of governmental regulation.

I fail to see how you claim the SEC Champ gets a free pass. How did LSU & Florida get free passes? You talk about OU and look what they did in their bowl game.

A free pass would mean they didn't play anyone and still got into the bcs mnc game. except that WASN'T the case now was it??
If you are going to say the SEC doesn't deserve it, at least PROVE it.

The fact we are even bringing in such ideas as "interest of the consumer" is a friggin joke. It's College Football.

Economic situations? The BCS conferences are the ones with the "economic considerations". The NCAA doesn't govern D-1 football neither does the NAIA obviously. The only "considerations" these leagues have for FOOTBALL is $$$$. Right now they are getting a sweet deal from Fox and all of the bowl sponsors for the BCS. Congress won't be able to do squat as usual.

Don't think of it as college football. Think of it as grocery stores. Imagine the government allowed a single grocery store to have a monopoly on the entire country. Now imagine that grocery store sold food for 1/10th the normal price...but only to certain people. That would hardly be fair to the consumer.
That's the BCS. It has a monopoly on a billion dollar industry and doles out money as it sees fit. That's inherently unfair not only the the schools, but the fans. If you just want to see games between big time programs, that's fine. But if you exclude 50-80% of the schools, don't call it a championship. If there were other options (i.e. the BCS weren't a monopoly) then they should be allowed to do whatever they want with their money. That's not the case, however.

My Two Cents:
If you want to bitch about "Grocery Stores" maybe you shouldn't complain about how easy of a trip the "potatoes" got to the shelf. Especially if you like the "carrots" that backed into the "Brown Bag". Don't get me wrong I love the "carrots", but somtimes you just got to concede that the "potatoes" are pretty damn "tasty".

I think one of us grossly fails to understand the analogy.
