Worst. Dan Foust. His call of the Fiesta Bowl was so pro Miami it was a joke.
Best. Keith Jackson in his prime. He has slipped since he retired an began to call games again. I always though Musburger was anti Ohio State during the Cooper years. He has come around recently. I am starting to like him more. I like Paul Keels on the radio. |

I grew up in Dayton (Kettering) listening to Marv Homan call the Buckeye games on radio and Ken Coleman doing the Browns on Sundays. Loved 'em both. Marv was not adverse to pulling for the Bucks at some peak moment, nor was he afraid to say something when the team was not playing well. Coleman was the complete professional, like Vin Scully he never cheered fromthe pressbox. I respect that.
You want the worst? Go back and watch the '69 Rose Bowl DVD and listen to Curt Gowdy. The fifties and sixties were filled with some horrible announcers; Curt, Chris Schinkle and Mel Allen. Guys who did very little research and tried to call all the sports in each season. Equally bad are the guys who can't keep from rooting as they call the game, so no, I don't like listening to Greg Lushutka and that a-hole in the after game show and I really can't stand Dave Lapham doing the Bengals--of course the fact that I hate the Bengals may have something to do with that. I always enjoyed Keith Jackson. Al Michales comes to mind as a consumate professional today. Calls the game, knows the background and the history and doesn't try and fill the air waves with the sound of his own voice. |

Best - Paul Gilmore, He comes off as the wise old man who knows more about the sport than anyone else in the booth. He acts like he doesn't pull for the bucks but recognizes just how great they are.
Worst - Todd McShay, I remember a special ESPN ran the week before the OSU-UM game in 2006, they're showing season highlights from both teams. When they reach the Texas game the host asks Todd "So when the Buckeyes went down to Austin and got the the W is that when you knew this team was something special?" To which Todd answered, "Actually that's when I started to think ya know maybe I'm right about this team, maybe they're overrated." Go suck a dick Todd! |

Play-by-Play: Paul Keels, and #2 is a long way back
Color: Chris Spielman (he has moments when he isn't particularly good, but he has moments of brilliant analysis that are unmatched) |

I thought it was the early 70s, but you may be right. He absolutely did one of these games. My guess would be the '72 game. I'm pretty sure the game I remember was played in the Horseshoe, so it would have been an even numbered year.
...and yes; Joepa was pretty horrible at it. Good analysis as far as it went, but zero knowledge of the teams and very little ability to hold the viewers' interest. |

JoePa called the 1974 tOSU-TSUN game with Keith Jackson on ABC. Later that year, Woody did the USC-ND game with Keith Jackson (ND blew a 24-0 lead, losing 55-24). Sorry, but I don't really remember what JoePa said - I was at that game.
![]() That was the 4 FG game by Tom Klaban, a 12-10 tOSU win. Even though people from Penn State know that no team only kicking FGs can possibly beat another that scored a TD. ![]() |

Best- Keith Jackson
Others I like- Lee Corso (he's just fun imo) and Kirk Herbstreit Neutral- Brent Musberger (I like his voice but after hearing "Theeee AAAAAA-TRAIN" with Anthony Thomas every time he carried the ball, I had trouble liking him. Plus, he can [censored] me off in The Game Worst- Lou Holtz, Todd McShay, Trev Alberts, and whoever used to help with Alberts that we all hated? |
