Which team wins the 2008 Big Ten?
NOTE - There will be ONLY one payout. In the event of a tie, the team that gets the conference's automatic bid will be the winner.
Edit - If there's a Big Ten team in the BCS Title game, that's the automatic bid. Otherwise it's the Rose Bowl. If there's a tie in the conference standings, the first Rose Bowl tie-breaker for the Big Ten is who won the head-to-head game, if the teams played.

Is that to say the team that goes to the Rose Bowl will win this bet, even if another team from the Big Ten splits the conference championship, but goes to the BCS title game?

No. The first rule in identifying the Big Ten's automatic bid to the BCS is that any Big Ten team ranked #1 or #2 in the BCS goes to the BCS Championship game. In other words, last year tOSU won the automatic bid, and Illinois was an 'at-large' team.
If there is no Big Ten team in the title game, then the conference champion goes to the Rose Bowl.
So if you bet on tOSU (or anybody else) and they make the BCS title game, they pay out (unless they are #2 in the BCS and another Big Ten team is #1).
