Virginia Cavs support Equality
Quote:
Two University of Virginia football players have been arrested at a downtown Charlottesville nightclub. Junior offensive lineman Will Barker and redshirt freshman lineman Dave Roberts were picked up at Club 216 on Water Street at 3:45 Saturday morning.
Police say both men admitted to stealing beer from a cooler at the nightclub. Both face larceny charges. Roberts, who is 19 years old, is also charged with being a minor in possession of alcohol and with using a fake ID.
Barker is expected to be a starter on the offensive line after being named a second-team freshman All-American by the Sporting News in 2006. He's one of two returning starting offensive lineman on Virginia's team this year.

Naturally, I wasn't going to be the one to bother posting this
From what I hear, Club 216 is the only club, bar, or other establishment in all of Charlottesville that legally serves beer after hours. I wouldn't know for sure though, having never set foot in any club or bar during my time there. (Beer is $30 a keg if you know where to look. House parties it was for us.)

These guys are football players at UVA I'm sure they have a way around the rules.
You never set foot in a bar or club in Charlottesville?

Nope. (Slight exaggeration. Maybe once or twice actually.)
But why bother? Beer's more expensive unless you get it the Will Barker way, which risks expulsion. Why go to a club when most parties have the same exact atmosphere and you don't have to pay a cent? Also parties are in the territory of university police, who don't care; downtown is the territory of city police.
The stupidity here is in being downtown for drinking in the first place, especially when underage. I'd say the vast majority of UVA students only go downtown for sober activities.

The bar scene at UVA must really suck, if that's the case.

Bar scene isn't downtown. Didn't mean for this to go into a rundown of UVA student social life, but a quick primer: Downtown has some clubs and stuff but it's about a mile and a half from the school. Bar scene is at the Corner which is basically right on Grounds, in fact it's closer than class for most people. The Corner is friggin' jampacked most weekend nights (another reason why I didn't go very much for drinking purposes.)

This is what you get when you rely upon the view of a Michigan fan. For shame. Allow a different picture to be painted by an Ohio State fan. The bar scene at UVA was great, and there was no drop-off from the drunken undergraduate days in Columbus.
I, too, attended many parties at UVA, as I did my graduate studies there. But I did slip away from time to time to some of the local establishments that served adult beverages. I will break them down by region. This was for the timefra | |
