I know NW is ahead, but isn't it a tad early to try running out the clock? They could have marched this down and scored....and then bacher gets drilled for a sack, and now Mizzou has 1:15 to take a punt and score.

Yep.

The zone/read, shotgun spread whatever one wants to call it is actually set up for multiple RUN options but some coaches get pass happy and forget that part of it.

The RUN is what makes that offense such a pain in the ass to defend when executed properly. When you abandon it, any decent defense can slow it down.
