Do what I do. Limit your post numbers, make them all very short in length, and always avoid sarcasm.

The fact that it is so one-dimensional makes it gimmick to me. Oklahoma and Ole Miss proved that....if they can't have any success from the shotgun throwing the ball, they're screwed. It'd be like stopping th etriple option consistently, and forcinga team like Navy to wing it around....just isn't going to happen. |

But if you view a gimmick as that second definition that you pointed out- " An innovative stratagem or scheme employed especially to promote a project" - then you have to have something you view as "normal" to be able to relatively define "innovative." That is where the platonic ideal of what offense should be comes into play. Personally, I view a gimmick as something that a team uses more for a surprise change-up. Any fully fleshed out offense, such as the Air-Raid, does not seem "gimmicky" to me because it's what they run all of the time. Now, if Texas Tech were to line up in the I to start the game, that would be "gimmicky" to me because they are doing something different for the sole purpose of surprise. |

Well, in that case my "ideal" offense has more to do with what the NFL (the goal, right?) is looking for. Like I said, when every TTU QB hasn't been able to get it done in the NFL, when NFL scouts say that the best WR TTUs ever produced (Crabtree, my subjective opinion) has never run an NFL route... well... to me, that means they're running something at TTU that may be innovative, but it isn't "normal" and thus, a gimmick.
Running a particular play that you don't normally run - ie TTU lining up power I, Ohio State throwing to the TE etc... I call them "trick plays" though I could see them as "gimmicks" with respect to the normal offense a team runs. |

Indeed - it's the honest and forthright thing to do. Little programs (and Georgia Tech) like to beat their chest and say "Ah-HA! CHEATERS! I knew it!" In reality - it's self-patrolling that keeps big programs within the good graces of the NCAA. In UGA's most recent turn in - Matt Stafford had received 2 sideline passes for the Broncos/Falcons game last year. He got them from Jay Cutler, someone not affiliated with the program. The NCAA talked to J-Cut, he admitted it and no harm was done. Stafford donated the cost of the tickets to the Athens Boys and Girls club. |

Give us a month to rest/heal/prepare and I feel confident our defense would have been able to limit the Jackets. On the complimentary side - with LSU's talent level on defense, giving them a month to prepare for anyone is a kiss of death. |
