Alabama won the 2008 Non-Mormon National Championship.

They paid their assistants the bonuses that were tied to reaching the Big 12 title game. Doing that is understandable, and a solid gesture for the staff, with the 3-way tiebreaker that was used to give it to Oklahoma.
SI.com But claiming a Conference title with an asterisk is a stretch. Last edited by BB73; 04-08-2009 at 12:47 PM. |

Didn't they end up taking it down anyway?

They did. Mack Brown shows a little dignity in not stooping to asterisk levels. In addition, it was a really classy move by the university to pay the assistants the bonuses - essentially they only lost those (per the contract stipulations) by a coin flip.

Reportedly it was supposed to be on the wall for Big 12 South Championships (Which they could make a legimate claim to)
Personally I think it's just a motivational ploy for the team, much like Tressel's 4114 passcode to the WHAC. |

They have a wall for Divisional Championships? What's next? Retiring the number of a one and done player that didn't win any championships?

But the '99 and '01 South Titles aren't listed there. They lost the CCG those years, so they didn't get Big 12 titles.

The composite conference schedule. Once again, the top game is the Red River Shootout. (Yeah, to hell with not calling it the Shootout)

You'd have to be pretty delusional though (Read: scUM fan) to believe that. |

Here's a look at each team's schedule - South gets looked at before the North.
Folks will want to give Texas the benefit of the doubt when it comes to getting into the BCS Title game this year, but a very weak non-conference schedule (La-Monroe, at Wyoming, UTEP, UCF) will make that harder to justify. CFN,Big 12 South Quote:

Texas plays AT Wyoming? How the heck did they get locked into that one? As long as you're scheduling a doormat, you might as well make it a home game and bank the ticket sales. Wyoming's stadium fits 33,000 people.

Arkansas cancelled the second game of their home and home with us to play a game with aggy. So we get stuck in Laramie. Though I think it will be interesting to see what it's like to watch a big time program like Texas play a real game on a playground.
