Really like what I've seen(not a lot, admittedly) from Zach Collaros. Plays a lot like Drew Brees did at Purdue. Could be better than Pike.

If either one of them had the combined stats from the starter of every Cincy game this year, I'd think he'd be the leading Heisman candidate right now.

Learned some interesting things about UC and Brian Kelly yesterday. One reason this supposed "top 10" team can't even fill their puny stadium has to do with the fact that Kelly and the football program find themselves seriously at odds with other scholarship sports programs at UC. The reason? Kelly and his staff received sizable bonuses for their 2008 team performance - and those bonuses were deducted entirely from the budgets of those other sports. (This intel comes from a UC athlete who shall remain nameless.) Consequently, those athletes find themselves to be on the short end of the stick relative to equipment, facilities, travel, etc. They refuse to attend UC football games, and fans of the other sports also stay away in droves.
Obviously Kelly and has staff have done a terrific job on the field. But equally clear is that he cares little about the effects of his actions on athletes other than those in his direct charge. Maybe that's the way one needs to do things to be successful at a historically non-football school like UC, but if I were AD at a more traditional football school such as Notre Dame or Michigan this attitude would raise big-time red flags. Don't read this as being a slam on Brian Kelly. I think he's done very good things for UC. But smaller schools need to tread carefully before they enter into a commitment to become "big-time" in football. It is an expensive proposition, and relatively few schools can aspire to the on-field or (more importantly) financial success that Ohio State has enjoyed. Universities need to look at the impact of big-time football (or to a lesser degree big-time hoop) on their overall bottom line, and make their decisions holistically. We Buckeyes are blessed to have had our two recent ADs make outstanding decisions along those lines that benefit all our student-athletes, the university generally, and the Columbus and Ohio citizenry. Few schools can say the same. |

Is it possible that Cincy runs one of those gimmick offenses like Texas Tech? Collaros has come in and performed just as well if not better than Tony Pike.

Collaros can run the ball if he needs too. I don't think Tony Pike would live if he tried to scramble too much. What I think Cincy has is a coach who is an expert at putting his players in a position to succeed and so far his players have been able to execute the plays that are being called. The Pitt game will be interesting. Pitt can score on their defense and Pitt's defense will be the best they face until their bowl. |

Decided to look it up and see what those stats would be. 2,862 pass yards 25 TD's 4 int's 68.2% 314 rush yards 6 TD's |

Ohio State has:
- Over 800 all time wins - 7 national titles - 9 unbeaten seasons - 33 Big Ten titles - 7 Heisman trophies - 68 first round draft picks - 132 first team All Americans ...and Cincy has a t-shirt. Why does anyone care? Cincy doesn't even own the highest poll finish for a non-Ohio State team from Ohio. Miami has several top ten finishes and even OU owns a top 20. But they have a t-shirt. Oooh. |

The season isn't over yet... Cincy very well could be little brother again in the polls by the end of the regular season. If either Pitt or WV beat them, the pollsters might jump all over them.

I would have to giggle a bit if we win out (including the bowl game) an UC drops 1 coming home and then loses their bowl game.
We would be somewhere in the top 10, they would be in the teens somewhere. Would the administration give people who purchased bUCkeye state shirts their money back? |
