Not sure why it took this long... I guess Vlad helps this transition (in enabling a good athlete to leave a routinely rotten depth chart), but he was always destined to move there imo.

Jwins I'm starting to get the feeling your busting my balls
Well they certainly have some interesting things going on there in AA. I think RR better start focusing his recruiting on defense really fast. As far as their recruiting is concerned I have noticed that not only has their presence tailed of on top guys in Ohio but PA also. I remember back 6-7 years ago they were snagging 3-4 top guys out of PA a year. Its good to see they have been striking out there lately...they did get Stokes last year though. |

![]() I agree they need to kick it up a notch defensively. So far, their notable recruits have been kids who were UM-friendly for years and with the past regime too (Campbell, Turner, Robinson). They are hitting the midwest a lot harder, though a number of their offers are a little questionable. Perhaps many of them are conditional offers. To get back to being Michigan, they need to start stealing the 4-star defenders vs OSU, PSU, ND & the Big 3 in FL rather than beating out USF, Nebraska, MSU, Wisconsin. There are good players to be had in that pool as well, but UM's current starting defense is filled with 5-stars. That's not a coincidence. |

It transcends merely failing to land big talent, though. They don't even really appear to be in the conversation for most of the big time defensive recruits, whether as a consequence of not offering or because of some failure in showing the appeal of scUM football (blech!). It's almost as if they forgot to put somebody in charge of recruiting defenders.

From the looks of things, they have a good shot at landing a quality DB class, but that position is at the bottom of the need list... IF Vlad and Turner work out like they expect. I still don't see many quality LB or DT prospects talking up UM. Kinnard is probably a spinner (comparable to our LEO). |

Indiana has probably more talent than it has has for awhile. OSU is recruiting Inidiana hard this year...so is Michigan.
If Michigan cannot beat out PSU,OSU, ND,and Illinois for the studs in Ill, Ohio, and PA they are in serious trouble. A think Williamson and Kinnard are very good players but IMO they were not getting offers from OSU. Thats the key IMO. Its not michigan getting Ohio players its Michigan getting Ohio players OSU offered or wanted. Thats not happening very much...Turner and Koger the last few years but thats not bad considering they lived in Ohio in the 90's. OSU has a small class and I am hoping that Dantonio and Zooker pick up some of the scraps in Ohio. If Michigan tanks this season again it will be interesting how they finish this recruiting season and begin next year. There are only so many years you can throw the "we are rebuilding" card. |

I have heard numerous times that RR is oblivious to defense...he wants athletes and counts on finding them a spot. Hence, the odd front defenses are more forgiving in that type of recruiting philosophy.

Here is the problem that I see with Michigans secondary. Warren could go pro after this season. Even if he returns who says Turner will be any good at the collegiate level. I know Vlad is coming off a knee injury but he looked no better than any other DB they had...I know hes a freshmen and he definately looked like it. The biggest problem I see is that RR is banking too much on his freshmen class. Cissoko is too short to play CB for them...I know people like to bring up Winfield and Greene but hes to short. IMO they needed 3 classes back to back to back that have quality and depth on defense. Losing Jones and Graves late screwed their DL recruiting last year. I think Campbell can be decent but he is not gonna be Will Johnson or TT. Roh needs a year to get bigger and stronger. IMO they are gonna be wasting eligibility on these young guys that should be RS because they have no depth. Will he go to a 3-4? Does he have the linebackers to do it? Another problem I see is they have changed defensive coordinators 3 times in 3 years. They also keep moving guys back and forth and back and forth. They also have alot of hybrids and tweeners. This is gonna bite them. |

The interest in Paulus makes RR's lack of interest in keeping Mallett in AA look even more unwise.
