one 'incident', you get the benefit of the doubt. after the [censored] that has gone down with this train wreck of a coach...I'm leaning more towards 'he was a CB the whole time in DickRod's head'. He's earned that distrust on his own.

Could get lucky today but several UM insiders are not optimistic about Jackson.

I was under the impression Peterman still needs to show some improvement in the classroom to get a "committable offer" from UM.

They could, of course, have continued to tell him he'd be a WR then shift him to corner after a little while on the team. I'll take what I can get, though, when it comes to "benefit of the doubt", otherwise this will become another RR shooting match.

I'm not either. Supposedly UNC is the place.

As for Peterman, I sort of get the impression from what I've read (and this is just me talking) that his grades are at the point (or will be once they're out for last semester) where they're not really enough if Michigan can't get enough CBs in the class, but could become good enough if the other CBs they're recruiting go elsewhere.

Former Pioneer High School quarterback Nader Furrha will enroll this week as a recruited walk-on at the University of Michigan after turning down football scholarship offers from Grand Valley State and Saginaw Valley State.

Now its time to give RR some credit.

When you can get local kids wanting to be part of the program so bad they are willing to turn down schollies at more successful programs to walk on to help rebuild yours, you are starting to build something.

there's a middle school where I grew up that was across the street from a grave yard.....and I used to think how awful it would be to have that view. now I know what a terrible view really is.

Michigan will play host to Under Armour All-American defensive end Sam Montgomery (Greenwood, S.C./Greenwood) for an official visit this week and Montgomery said on Wednesday night that the Wolverines may have pulled ahead a little.
"I am really liking (Michigan) right now," Montgomery said. "But LSU is in there as well."

The Wolverines are no strangers to recruiting the Palmetto State, having signed at least one player from South Carolina during the last three recruiting cycles. They signed defensive back J.T. Floyd (Greenville, S.C./J.L. Mann) in last year's class, receiver Junior Hemingway (Conway, S.C./Conway) in the Class of 2007 and defensive lineman Adam Patterson (Columbia, S.C./Richland Northeast) in the Class of 2006.

Last week, during practices leading up to the Under Armour All-American Game in Orlando, there was intense speculation that Montgomery would end up in Baton Rouge, including Montgomery himself going on the record with LSU as his leader.

That was before a staff shake-up in Baton Rouge took place on the defensive side of the ball. Co-defensive coordinators Bradley Dale Peveto and Doug Mallory have moved on and defensive line coach Earl Lane, Montgomery's recruiter of record, is not expected to be a part of the staff in 2009.

There could be a strong third player in the Montgomery sweepstakes. He says that after his Ann Arbor trip, he will head to North Carolina for an official visit the following weekend. Tar Heels defensive line coach John Blake is one of Montgomery's favorite recruiters and was instrumental in bringing another South Carolina defensive lineman, Robert Quinn (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) in for the Class of 2008. Quinn played significant snaps this year for the Tar Heels, who finished 8-5 and played in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte, their first bowl trip under second-year head coach Butch Davis.

Montgomery also hasn't ruled out in-state schools Clemson and South Carolina. Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney called Montgomery on Wednesday night and the Gamecocks have two of his teammates (Class of 2009 safety D.J. Swearinger and Class of 2010 defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles) committed.

Most close to Montgomery believe he ultimately will stay close to home, which is a big sign that he may indeed end up in Chapel Hill if he does not have a change-of-heart about staying in-state.

At this point, Montgomery's interest Rich Rodriguez's program is based solely on his knowledge of the strong tradition in Ann Arbor and his love for Detroit, where he has family. Broadening his understanding of the Maize and Blue will be one of his primary objectives this fall.
"I know Michigan is a very good program -- and I also know that Michigan has snow," Montgomery said, laughing. "I also know that the school is near Detroit, so that's an automatic plus for me. I've just got to go up there and see it."

Appreciated, but I'm actually going to go against RR here. I always said RR would be able to recruit better at Michigan than at WVU simply because it's Michigan. It still is. Michigan has always gotten kids like this - they're not likely to play, nor make it to the NFL, and there are some that prefer to be able to say they were on the Michigan football team, even if it means not playing, than to say they played D-II. Whether RR was the coach or someone else my guess is Furrha would still have wanted to play at Michigan. As someone pointed out, Pioneer is literally across the street from the stadium.

I'm not sure peace is a big loss, nor Barnes. but if that's the case, it only backs up the naysayers who said rr was reaching with those kids.

If Cameron Gordon decommited tomorrow, I think both claims would hold true again. There are a number of kids like that in this class imo.

DL has been the best recruiting so far by rr, but that hinges on keeping graves and Jones. Hanging onto both is unlikely. Lalota also reinforced his original projection - ol - during allstar festivities.

UM desperately needs to get back into ohio for their difference makers. The woodsons, howards, etc. The punter was their best Ohioan in the game, two years running. Turner looks like a good step in that direction, but he was a rare blue-blooded fan from birth.

Will rr fight to break through the ohio fence? Or will he keep focusing his efforts down south, where decommitments run rampant?

if Eugene smith outperforms forcier, that may not hold true this season.

Montgomery is an interesting development. Will rr pull out a late one with his ties, or lose yet another to unc?
