If I'm understanding that correctly, that $600K figure is less than I would have thought, and I'm not sure it supports the author's conclusion (that far fewer underclassmen should declare for the draft). If you make an NFL roster for just a single year (which I would imagine most early draft enrollees do), I'd imagine you stand a pretty good chance of making up the financial value, stated above, of a college degree. Particularly if that figure required inflation adjustment.

I am curious how the author arrived at the $600k figure. In the case where the author assumes equal NFL success for an individual regardless of when he enters the draft, the analysis is staight-forward and may well be $600k. What's not clear is how the risk of injury and other factors like year-to-year draft positioning come into play.

But the bowl game announcers said that your roster is absolutely loaded with young talent, and that LSU would be right back in the top five next year. I doubt that you'll miss any of those players, because the media is never wrong.

and we probably will start the season highly ranked. how that young talent actually performs on the field is yet to be seen though. the only 2 Dlinemen we are returning with any experience have played well when given the chance. but they have played sparingly the last couple years. outside of Minter, none of our LB did anything really noteworthy. and now in the Secondary, we return the 2 Jalens who did OK for freshmen this year, but were a noticeable step down from previous years. Loston is coming back as well, but he's always been a feast or famine at Safety for us. |

Just to clarify Nutria, I was just taking a shot at the media more than anything. LSU has been top notch on D for at least a decade. I have no doubt that they will reload. At the same time, any D that looses arguably its 3 biggest talents-playmakers in Minter, Montgomery, and Mingo could struggle to get back to the same level in one year. If you are looking at making a national championship run as a fan I think it would seem to be easier if those guys all came back. I just thought it sounded stupid when watching the Clemson game, and the announcer said he had seen a few practices, and even if Mingo and Monty went pro they would be just as good. I don't know anything about the young pass-rushers you have coming up. As a guy that hopes you are capable enough to stem the evil Bama empire each year, I hope you do reload. |

every freaking one of these guys except Faulk has officially announced they leaving. |

That hurts Nutria. I don't know if any team can rebound immediately from that. You certainly have to hope the schedule is weak on the front end.
