Wheelwright
Why is a talent like Earnie Wheelwright and other local players are not being picked up by OSU? The same can be said about the basketball team-Brookhaven's Andrew Lavender.

He was an academic hazard and Tressel has already been nailed by a couple of those so he made the right call.
Hindsight is 20/20.

There was never a doubt that Ernie Wheelwright was going to be a good player. He was a major grade concern. The recruiting services had him listed as a junior during his senior year and Duane from BN said he would have to be considered one of the top recievers in the state if his grades were in order. Wheelwright and a RB Valentine (I think that was the name) were good friends and wanted to go to school together. They both ended up in Minny and both should have good careers over there.

All the above may be true, but what is wrong with taking a chance. He could do no worse than some scholarship players that see no PT at all.

Sure could have... could have not been eligible... like he was his first year at Minnesota....
The only "Why?" on this thread is "Why didn't the newbie use the search function to find 6 other threads that answered his question instead of being an overly critical know-it-all flaming asshole?"
Oops- Answered my own question.

Sorry but if he cannot even qualify to go to Ohio State why should they take a chance? Plus you are talking about Tressel and one reason he was brought here was to "clean up" the academics. He will take a few fringe grade players but they at least qualify, and if they don't stay qualified they become Darius Hiley who had to transfer to JC and if he gets his grades up will be welcomed back. Heck, we had 2 just last year that they pulled scholarships during recruiting because OSU would not accept them. Of course some schools have lower requirements to be accepted and then some schools offer special "help" to those players. Remember, we are talking about a school that had a whole basketball team that had tutors do all the homework/term papers.
