HOOVER ? Even a national championship-winning coach couldn?t compete with Nick Saban on Thursday at SEC media days.
Florida?s Urban Meyer arrived at the second of the three-day league publicity sessions, but the star of the day was Saban, whose Alabama team posted a mediocre 6-7 record a year ago.
Crimson Tide fans gathered in the lobby of the Wynfrey Hotel, forbidden to go upstairs where reporters jammed the main interview room during Saban?s 40 minutes on the stage.

Saban takes shot at South Florida

Alabama coach Nick Saban fired a shot at South Florida's admissions policy. "There are a significant amount of players who don't qualify and they end up being pretty good players at some other schools," Saban said in an interview with the Birmingham News. "I think there are six guys starting on the South Florida defense who probably would have gone to Florida or Florida State, but Florida and FSU couldn't take them." Cheap shot? It certainly came off that way to USF coach Jim Leavitt, a rising star who did not care for someone dumping mud on his team's historic accomplishment.

I think Saban has proven that he's pretty much a trash talker, then again, that seems to be the SEC way.

You've got to wonder what goes through Saban's head sometimes. So some USF players might not be able to get into Florida or FSU. Those are exactly the kind of Florida athletes whom Saban should be targeting to round out his recruiting classes.

Now, he has [censored]ed off all those Florida HS coaches that have any player on the USF team.
