Has anyone over here heard of wrongdoing at Tennessee? I do not want to go ESPN on that program, but there are rumors on bucknuts that they are going to be looked at soon. I just wanted to know if anyone else had heard this.

"Apparently a story is coming out later today concerning Tennessee head football coach Phillip Fulmer. The story is supposed to come out in Monday mornings Miami Herald and the next issue of Sports Illustrated. Early reports contain information pertaining to the "purchasing" of recruits through a third party at Fulmer's request. If the allegations are true, then this could seriously hurt the Tennessee football program long term. Rumors are circulating about Fulmer's termination in light of this investigation. As soon as I know more, I will update this story as the information comes in"
www.sectalk.com its from the site administrator, so you would think there would be some validity to it. if nothing else, there will probably be a miami herald article on the matter. |

That would be a nice diversion for the Buckeyes, and get us McCoy to boot.

This will be a nice test of ESPN and the national media's intent. If they go after Tennessee with the same vigor they went after us, we will know it was just for the story. If not, we'll know it's personal.

I think there are a lot of dirty people that can be justifiably hated in this situation. But I still think that if this story had taken place at Michigan, USC, etc. they would have still pursued it like this.
I really don't think there is someone up there scheming to ruin the buckeyes. I think they are scheming to twist it and squeeze every last drop of ratings out of it. They're employing some dirty tactics no doubt, but I think the agenda is to milk a juicy situation at a top school. Everytime they do something ridiculous, most of the ohio state faithful continue to check in and might even do so moreso because they are so filled with hatred that they want to know exactly what eSPiN is spinning. As much as Tennessee is a big school, they're sort of a second tier team. They're not on the same level as OU, USC, tOSU, UM, etc. Just keep taht in mind when they may not pursue this story with the same vigor. Also, Sports Illustrated is a much more respectable publication than ESPiN the magazine. They won't post the same trash that the other magazine did. Expect them to milk any possible story, but I don't think they will do so in as much of a tabloid fashion. They'll still attack Tennessee if there are stiff allegations, but they should represent the situation a lot more fairly. Last edited by jwinslow; 02-20-2008 at 05:47 PM. |

I can't take any type of pleasure in this at all...
My sympathy goes out to the fans of the program. We should all know how much something like this hurts...even moreso when you realize that you have zero control in the matter. |

If there are rumors circulating about wrongdoing by a football coach we should probably believe them - especially if the sports media are reporting on it. It must be true.

Agreed. I take no pleasure in Tennessee's upcoming woes. The only tiny consolation is that they will not have to hear about it as much as it is the offseason.
It's gotta hurt their chances down the stretch tho with recruits, and if it does prove to be big they might even start losing recruits. I really hope SI shows ESPiN how to handle one of these articles. I really hope they do their homework and cover everything first, then come out with a preliminary report that does not offer judgment until all the facts are sorted out. Do you think other fans would actually appreciate this difference tho? I think if they do it in a responsible fashion that does not involve them stuffing it down our throats, I think fans will appreciate it. No matter what tOSU was alleged to have done, most non-OSU-hating CFB fans were sick of hearing about clarett in november, let alone now. |
