Clearly you never heard Bobby Reid's point of view.

I'm familiar with his POV. I do think that BR may have had a few issues that would lead him to not appreciate what MG did. Myself in BR's position? I'm not sure that I'd have appreciated how MG handled things... but I would have appreciated that he did. |

Rob Parker has a history of tossing out baseless, idiotic accusations at just about everything and everyone. My personal favorite was when he called Hank Aaron classless and a coward (those words exactly, repeatedly, and as just as an example of what else was in the column) for not following Barry Bonds around the country so he could be in the stands when the HR record was broken. It's literally gotten to the point where we figure if Rob Parker accuses you of something, you're probably in the clear. The man's a jackass and fans in Michigan have learned never to take him seriously until he's corroborated by someone with a brain.

Where's the Sportscenter never-ending loop of Coach Dantonio sticking up for his players? Sure it's not as entertaining as Gundy's, but it seems much more effective in getting the point across about ESPN-like (sensationalistic) "journalism".
Oh, Never mind, I just answered my own question. Can't show someone bashing bad journalism without having the opportunity to make them look foolish. Now can we? |

If I were a Michigan State fan, I would be extremely [censored]ed. Probably not the smartest comment that Coach Dantonio has ever made.

He's rooting for his former employer and a bunch of good coaching friends over his instate archrival, and chances are his support will not have any impact on the outcome of The Game; even some MSU fans are smart enough to understand that.

If MSU fans were really smart then they would realize that they want to root against tOSU, and root for Oregon State (aOSU?). MSU vs. USC would be a disaster. |

The alternative is for their coach to root for archrival scUM, so it's pretty much a lose-lose: he demonstrates more class by displaying his personal loyalty to his friends.

He'd display more sense by using coach-speak and saying that he was concentrating on his own game. Afterall, those two teams are playing for some pretty high stakes themselves.

The other possibility, due to the timing of the games, is that he's getting ready to 'spin' a probable tOSU victory over TSUN, which his players will learn about minutes before their kickoff in Happy Valley.
By stating ahead of time that it's a good thing for tOSU to win, after that happens, he can say to his team just before kickoff "All right, TSUN lost, now we can go out there and win a share of the Big Ten title and show everybody that we're now the top football program in our state!" That way they won't be thinking "Damn, tOSU won, so we don't have a shot at the Rose Bowl" just before they take the field. |

What he says in public; and what he says in private (or how he actually actually feels) can be two totally different things.

Which is why coach speak would have been the best route.
