If you have couple grand burning a hole in your pocket, I would check out Amazon. They have the 52" Samsung LNT5271F on sale for $2100 + free shipping. It was $700 more a few months ago. $1800 off of retail is ridiculous. You won't get anything close to that price at Best Buy or Circuit City. Act fast, the prices of HDTV's fluctuate like the stock market on Amazon...

Amazon.com: Samsung LNT5271F 52-inch 1080p 120Hz...Amazon.com: Samsung LNT5271F 52-inch 1080p 120Hz...

Just got a Panasonic TH-50PX80U Plasma. Found it online for $1249 (buydig.com). Had a budget of 2,000 so I went with the 50 inch and decided to get a HTS with it as well. Found the Onkyo HT-908 SP for $750(Amazon.com) and called it a day. After getting everything hooked up I am glad I opted for a smaller size tv and got the surround sound. Watched the PENS last night and it was like I was in the Igloo. Eventually I will update the speakers but the Onkyo 605 receiver is an awesome reciever and I was able to run HDMI for all my sources.

The Buckeye Man Cave is coming along nice... Should have the bar done this weekend and most of pictures and Jesrseys hung.

Pulled the trigger today. Samsung 50" 1080 plasma for $1699 at CC. Still have not hooked it up, but it sure looks sweet hanging in the wall.

Honest question for those who bought their tv's from places like Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. What made you decide to buy from them? When I was shopping and comparing on every brand I was looking at I found a lot cheaper online?

Did ordering a large ticket item like that make you nervous or shipping etc?

I know on the combo HTS and TV I save over 600 not including the tax by buying online. Just curious.

I don't really trust shipping and I also had a 12% off coupon at best buy along with a gift card

I probably would not buy at BB with their current deal. Their previous HDAdvantage deal crushed online pricing, however.

One way or the other, the TV had to be shipped for me, as I did not own anything large enough to transport a box larger than the 50" TV inside. As long as it was a reputable dealer and provided assurance/return for any complications (dead pixels, shipping blemishes), I would have no problem ordering online.

Nah, that was a gift from W. Tax refund.

I am a bit dissapointed about the ammount of programming available in HD. Flipped around last night and there was almost nothing available in HD. Some of the HBO movies look grainy as hell on the big screen. I watched an Austin City Limits and it was just OK. Am I missing something?

Do you guys mess with the picture controlls? I got it set where it looks good to me, but I do not know if there are any tips.

We have a 54 inch DLP by Samsung. I like the DLP and I am NOT an expert, but 1080 is the way to go for anything from what I have heard. The DLP pic is great.

It's pretty funny reading this thread and how outdated stuff becomes QUICKLY.

Bringing it back since I am now(within 2 months) buying a flat panel tv for the first time...I've been rocking the 35 inch regular ol' tv but new house = new tv.

I'm looking in the 54 or 58 inch range most likely. Plasma probably unless light will be an issue.

Pioneer is now out of biz so the king of the hill is dead. Leaving Panasonic and Samsung is seems.

I'm leaning currently to this Panasonic TC-P54V10 Flat-panel TV reviews - CNET Reviews

Anyone have this or something similiar - any recent purchases, pros/cons of what you bought - recommendations....etc.

I forgot to add --- I can't stand TV's that motion blur when watching sports. It seems nearly every tv my friends have, have that problem and it damn near gives me a headache and is damn hard to watch...

I was debating going with a LCD or a Plasma TV early last week. One of my buddies picked up a Samsung 67" LCD 1080p 120hz TV for $1300 when Circuit City was going under. I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on an inferior TV for more money.

I did find, and ordered, an Optoma 20 projector. It's 1080p native and costs $900-$1000. Hopefully it shows up tonight so I can play with it.

Just a thought for those who are looking to make a buy.

I bought a 50" Samsung 720p plasma a year ago for $899 from Onecall.com. I have Direct TV with HD receiver and absolutely no complaints. I have to admit, I now hate watching channels that don't broadcast in HD. My father in law bought a 47" LCD around the same time, the picture quality is totally different. The main advantage of the plasma is the viewing angle, you don't get the fade out like with the LCDs and the blacks are much deeper and truer.

I have a 42" Plasma Panasonic Viera. Could not be happier with the TV. Football weekends are always at my place. Lot's of jealous friends. Although with the prices that are rapidly dropping for TV's they really have no excuses to not have an HD ready one by now.

I bought a 50" Samsung 720p plasma a year ago for $899 from Onecall.com.
I still love my 50" 720p Panasonic for 899 after a big sale at Best Buy.

You really can't go wrong with Panasonic, as long as it has enough hdmi ports & resolution (some sale TVs have 1024x768 resolution, which is too low) to suit your tastes.
