anyone with computer knowledge please!
I updated my E1705 by putting in a 7950 gtx, the best I can get for my laptop. the 90w power supply kept overheating and shutting off, so I went and bought a 130w supply from Dell. Everything started to work fine, then the video card or processor was overheating and would totally shutoff the laptop. When i restart, it tells me the system got too hot and shutdown. it did this 3-4 times, and now when I try to boot, it shows the startup, when it gets about halfway through the load, it completely shuts off. It keeps doing this. When i put the charger in, the charge light doesn't come on. I may have fried something, I dont think its too too bad, since I can at least turn it on and get halfway through the loading. Can anyone maybe throw some ideas at me to what they think is wrong? Appreciate it!

Did you swap the video card yourself?
Are all the fans working properly? Is the heatsink clean and free of lint and debris? Is the heatsink correctly seated on the CPU with thermal paste? (That last one is impossible to tell without getting into the machine)

I did swap the video card myself. The heatsink is totally clear of any debris, when I took off the CPU heatsink, the thermal paste is almost gone. Maybe this had something to do with it. I took the whole laptop apart again to check some things, restarted it and it wanted to boot, but all the lights blink on and off and nothing displays. Still, the power supply unit doesn't register when plugged in to the laptop. Some progress, but still don't know what the next step it to get this thing to POST. Thanks already for the response.

Do you get any lights at all if you're plugged into the A/C adapter with the battery removed?

Yup. Battery removed and just running off the A/C power, it does the same thing. It turns on but the lights start blinking and nothing displays.

My question, where did you find a Go7950GTX oem?? and how does the battery survive?
That said, What you need to do, get some epoxy; and maybe some new heatsinks - make sure the CPU, GPU and northbridge are taken care of.
edit: I found the highest GPU the series comes with from factory is a G07800. - can we get some pics perhaps?

Ya, the E1705's highest stock card is the 7800. The 7950 gtx comes from the XPS series M1710. The E1705 and M1710 are identical except for the video card and hardrive. I personally don't have any pics, but I bought the card off of ebay, and a took a pic from there as well that I attached. The battery....HA! Doesn't survive at all. The original power supply unit that I had wasn't even powerful enough for it, it kept overheating and shutting off. Thats why I had to buy a 130w one. I'm wondering if I fried the video card itself. I will put the stock one back in and see if it will work. Also, I just bought some thermal paste that I will reput back on the processor heatsink. If I can get this problem fixed, I will also buy a cooler. Don't know how well those work though.
