Need help downloading and burning television episodes

This is the first attempt I have made at something like this, so forgive my stupid questions....

I am trying to download an episode from last night that our DVR missed (Thanks, Time-Warner!

) so that I can burn it to a DVD to take home, but I am having some issues....

I seem to have downloaded the files successfully, but I cannot get them to play. It is in an .avi format, but when I play it in Windows Media Player, all I get is the sound, but no picture.

When I try to access the file using Windows Movie Maker, it says I don't have the proper codec installed. I do have it enabled to automatically download any necessary codec, but nothing is happening.

I'm not sure exactly what I need or where to find it. Any thoughts?

I had the same problem when I started downloading movies/tv shoes. I downloaded divx and their codex thingy (I'm just as bad as you are, ex: thingy) and I've had no problems ever since.

DivX Video Player - DivX Video Codec - DivX Converter

You don't need to buy the converter package. The free download will be fine enough.

Awesome! I now have it downloaded and can watch it here.

My new question is how the hell do I get this on a DVD-R?

Will the .avi format work or do I need to do something to that? Do I any software to get it on the DVD?

I guess it needs to be converted from DivX to DVD. I found a free trial version of converting software that did the trick. It has a watermark in the middle of the screen, but I can live with that for one episode.
