Microsoft loves TinyURL spamming.

It's a fact. Bill Gates's obscene wealth is just compensating for his tiny URL.

Got Windows 7 today, so far, I like that it detected my TV adapter, it loads a lot faster and the install was so much faster than vista or even XP, overall, I am impressed, but let's see how I feel in 3 months.

Does it take up a lot less space than Vista (as I've heard)?

This morning I'm trying to use my system builder copy of Windows 7 Pro final out of my MAPS subscription to build a test machine for our data processing division.
Windows 7 does not support Adaptec 29160 controllers. This is arguably only the most common premium SCSI controller made over the past ten years for business-class workstations. XP had native 29160 support. Vista had native 29160 support. So, I wiped the box completely, installed Vista with its signed 29160 controller driver and then tried to upgrade to 7 that way. Errors out: Controller not supported. You have got to be [censored]ing kidding me. |

So, in the course of chasing my tail trying to figure out how to get 7 to recognize a 29160 controller (still can't get it to work, and the day is about over), I also discovered today that Vista doesn't have any driver support for 3c905 rev.A NICs. Seriously. The install media for both these OSes is DVD. There is 4.7Gb of storage space for drivers on these discs somewhere. How the hell MSFT would ever ship an OS that doesn't support everything a company like Adaptec or 3Com has ever made that plugs into a PCI slot just boggles my mind. |

Can't help you on the Adaptec, but I've heard from a couple people that you can download ths 3com 3c90x driver and install on Win7 even though it's not specifically listed. Then connect to Windows Update where there's supposedly a newer version.
3Com Product Downloads - Search Results 3c90x1.exe is the one to get. |
